for 6 months and within 1 week of being in school, now has a cold.
My 9 year old has come home today croaky and bit of a cough, he does not have a temperature though.
The only illness we have had is my 2 year old had a sickness bug back in march.
Waiting to hear back from the school, i assume he/we will need testing and to self isolate?
I genuinely think its a cold, but i suppose you never know.

My DS. He was fine when he finished in March. No illness of any kind. Went back last week and had to have a test today as he has a runny nose and slight cough.

I'm a teacher and had to get a Covid test today after waking up with a temp and sore throat. dS1&2 will have to be off school until I get a negative result, and until late next week if it's positive 😬

I think the government has underestimated the impact general (non-Covid) illness is going to have on the safe running of schools.

Yep , we’re back two days last week and youngest has a cold . We’ve had to stay home though as she has a temperature too .

We've been back since last Wednesday and both me and my daughter have colds, only a runny nose and sore throat, no temp or cough so the NHS site says no test needed. I work in the same school and I'd estimate over half the children have the same cold.

I agree. I don't think Covid is going to be an issue in the vast majority of schools, however, general illnesses (like colds) plus the quarantine rules and slow testing/results are going to deeply affect how smoothly schools can run. I can see huge disruptions looming in our schools.

Also to add, yep, my dd woke this morning with a streaming cold.

Same here - no colds or bugs at all since March. Back in two days gets sniffles, sneezing, sore throat and today a high temperature. I’m sure it’s a cold and in normal times I’d be overreacting but currently trying to book a test because that’s what we have to do. Can see this being a recurrent theme of the school year and hoping there’s going to be some sort of plan for home learning for all the days not going to school while waiting for a test.

DS went to 6th form last Wednesday. Woke up Saturday with a stinking cold having done 3 days and 6 train journeys. He is now in hospital with an acute asthma attack. 2 lots of Covid tests were negative.

Daughter went back on the 3rd - has come back today with a slight runny nose. I’m very anxious about COVID as it is... this is not helping. No temperature or cough yet but wondering if I should send out for a test

Ds(7) had 3 days off within 2 weeks of being back. Passed his cold onto the rest of the family. Toddler got a temperature with his cold and a cough so needed Covid test and us to isolate despite kNowing full well it was likely to be same cold... Covid test negative but I’ve got the cold now too as has dd(11) and sore throat etc.

So this tells us we are doing a pretty poor job of social distancing and hygiene. If a cold can spread then covid can.

Yes both DC woke on Sunday with blocked noses and sore throats. Their first day back was Thursday.

Yes. I believe it’s weakened their immune systems and ours. I have a very bad cold too, bordering on flu. I don’t think it’s Covid, but still awaiting my results.

Yep both mine have come out in colds after starting back at school last Thursday 😬 I did just read an article that colds can protect you from catching the flu, so maybe this will turn out to be a good thing!
