Covid

Did anyone else’s symptoms start like this before they tested positive?

Friday night I had a tickle in my throat which I expected to turn into a mild cold. By Saturday night I had a blazing sore throat which literally felt like my throat was on fire. Then I started coughing and feeling shivery but my temp was normal according to the thermometer. I’ve also been exhausted and slept and slept! This morning I’ve got a cough, slight tight chest, a bit of a runny nose and I’ve just realised I can’t smell anything. Not my shower gel, my perfume, anything! It is so weird. I’m having a test this morning. Did anyone else test positive with these symptoms?
The who mentions sore throats but they aren’t officially on the U.K. symptom list.

And I also had a banging headache Thursday and Friday which paracetamol didn’t shift but that may or may not have been related!

sounds like it,
but also might not be picked up by a test, or could even be a cold.

I’ve the same symptoms, done a postal test on Thursday and should have my results back today. However I was in contact with my DSis who tested negative with the same symptoms, it was just a really nasty cold! Hoping our results come back negative

The sore throat and runny nose aren't common symptoms. There's so many other bugs around at the moment, now everyone is back at school/work we're bound to pick up coughs and colds. I hope it's a negative result for you and you feel better soon!

(To be clear, saw Dsis after she tested negative but still had the cold)

Thanks everyone Wine

I’m sort of hoping it’s positive, I would just like to get it out the way. I do have asthma but it’s well controlled touch wood.

What’s so weird is the loss of smell. I literally cannot smell a thing and it’s so weird. My runny nose has disappeared a bit this morning, definitely doesn’t feel like a normal cold but who knows. I would just like to be able to smell something! Can’t even smell my toothpaste or deodorant, it’s such a weird feeling!

My husband and son had agonisingly sore throats with Covid. The loss of smell sounds like Covid.

Shine a torch down your throat and see if your tonsils have white pus spots on them. I get all those symptoms with tonsillitis

I missed that. I still wonder why there's the questioning.

I was interested to see if anyone had had the sore throat, headache, and feeling shivery without a temp and tested positive when they aren’t recognised symptoms according to the U.K. advice

Chris Whitty said there were lots of other symptoms but that in the vast majority of cases people would also have one of the 4 listed symptoms. So they use those to avoid confusion.

You have loss of smell and a cough, so tick the symptoms. The Zoe app mentions a headache and a sore throat as common too. I hope you make a quick recovery Thanks

A friend had a positive test result and she had fatigue, headaches and loss of smell. She didn't cough once.

HairyToity · 07/09/2020 12:23

P. S. She also didn't have a sore throat.

It does sound like potential Covid. It's good you are being tested to know for sure. I assume you are self isolating now.

I hope you feel better soon.

Whilst getting a test is important, for the sake of others, it is worth nothing that loss of the senses of smell and taste is also a symptom of colds and flu! According to research, experts say that the loss is "different" which is no doubt helpful to clinicians who have had time to read the papers. And at least one of the papers was based on a huge sample size of 30 - 10 with coronavirus, 10 with colds and flu, and 10 healthy people. So maybe not exhaustive....

If people have symptoms they need to test yes, but don't jump to conclusions. Despite the reports of rising numbers, the number of people contracting the virus is still small.

I had something identical last week. Tested sat when lost sense of smell, still waiting for results but I'm almost certain it's going to be negative. Taste was better yesterday and normal today, and I've only seen one friend whose DC had a cold which had been confirmed as non-COVID.

Even if you have it once, you can catch it again.

Thanks for the replies. Still awaiting my results however have slept most of the day, I’ve got a really annoying cough which is worse when I move and a terrible blocked nose. I also have really bad headaches which I think is sinus pain. Whatever it is I hope I feel better soon! Been a long time since I had a virus like this!

Shivery , sore thread and headache, plus diarrhoea were key symptoms for me. Utterly exhausted. Sore back and chest followed a week later. Cough intermittent.

MadameBlobby · 07/09/2020 23:06

Blocked nose is apparently not part of Covid. Hope it’s just a cold and you get a negative result soon.
