Covid

Worried for my son

Hi all.

So my son started reception on Wednesday and had a half day. He came home and on the night he was sick and had really bad diahrhea.
Luckily he was off for the rest of the week as it was induction and I thought he must have just ate something what didn’t agree with him/excitement of starting school.

Fast forward to now and he has developed a really bad cold, lethargic etc the usual symptoms.
I rang 111 purely for advice as he is prone to chest infections as soon as he gets a cold and sometimes they turn quite bad.

Anyways they have said his symptoms including the upset tummy then devolving a cold straight after is one of the signs of Covid in children. We are filling guidelines and he has to go for a test in the morning.

Don’t really know why I’m posting maybes just for a handhold but has anyone had a child test positive with the extra symptoms of sickness?

Thanks xx

@Icanseeclearlynow12 there was a report on the news recently saying stomach upsets were common symptoms for young children with COVID and that it should be added to the list when determining whether a test is required.

I hope all is ok @Ginandbitterlemon

Following days a lot of snot and day 8 a cough. It lasted 8w.
We hot ill about 4w later and i had trouble breathing. But i actually think us adults caught that from a supermarket delivery 4d earlier. She seemed to get a new cough too. So she may have started off with something else

Hope your boy is ok @Ginandbitterlemon. Does he have a cough with his cold?

Thank you!

I didn’t realise it was a symptom either until I spoke to 111. Apparently it’s quite common for kids to have an upset tummy then develop a cold straight after with Covid.

I’m worried sick- I know it doesn’t really effect kids (touch wood) in the same away it can adults but I just feel really sad for him as He’s going to be missing his first proper week in reception.
I really thought I could see a light at the end of the tunnel.

@Icanseeclearlynow12 no not really, nothing what I would be worried about. I was purely just ringing for advice and then now we are in isolation and waiting for him to get tested Sad

Fingers crossed for you, hope the test is ok for your son and it comes back negative.

I'm now wondering if I should send mine in tomorrow, it's so hard to know what to do as upset tummy not on official guidelines. Might call for advice xx

@Ginandbitterlemon hope your little one feels better soon and the test comes back negative

@Icanseeclearlynow12 yes please do call for advice before sending to school as it can save another child getting sick in remote case it is covid.

I had heard the symptoms for kids included upset tummy etc - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and your little boy, hopefully it's nothing more than just a nasty big he's picked up.
Glad you're getting him tested though xx

@guilttripjourno what are you on about?

Sickness and diarrhoea are symptoms of covid in children. But most children recover very quickly, without getting to poorly.
Self isolate and Get a test

Ah I hope he is ok op, must be scary.

Deep breath. Also try not to worry about missing the first week. In normal times, most kids get ill as they start nursery / school so these things happen. My eldest seemed to be ill for a entire year when he started nursery. Now he has a cast iron immunity. He caught it all before school age.

A friend’s 9 month old had vomiting and bloody diarrhoea and was positive for coronavirus. He also had a temp but no real cough. I hope your little one feels better soon and I hope the test comes back negative.

My DS has started 6th form on Wednesday and caught a cold which he felt cold with on Saturday.
I am now sitting at his bedside in hospital as they have given him lots of drugs and fluids and decided to keep him in overnight.
He’s looking considerably better than he did a few hours ago.
No clue if it is Covid or a cold but the risk assessment they have done says all due to asthma.
Awaiting results arriving tomorrow or Tuesday.
