Covid

Do people actually realise how few are dying from coronavirus now?

It’s all still doom and gloom on the news as normal regarding coronavirus. Loads about cases going up, local lockdowns, negativity regarding schools going back but nothing about the fact that hardly anyone is actually dying from coronavirus or being admitted to hospital. Can we not hear about positive things for once?

Some people just love the drama and won’t be happy til there’s something else to worry about

Currently people are behaving like sheep

You do realise most people aren't counted in figures as majority die after 28 days when their deaths are discounted?

Posted too soon...

The virus seems to be affecting people’s ability to rationalise

It’s embarrassing seeing such grown adults behaving like it’s the end of the world

Oh cherry please

Look at hospital figures

They’re ridiculous for a country of 67 million

Hardly anyone is infected, that is why. We have very low rates at the moment compared to a few months ago, and compared to the predicted winter outbreak.

But don't let that stop your dreams of being superior to the 'sheep' or whatever it is you like to call people who are more intelligent and informed than you.

Embarrassing comment. 'sheep'? Presumably you're basing your views on your own scientific research study.

Where does this sort of comment get us?

The question, really, is why does Chris whitty still think we need to follow measures? Because he definitely knows the latest death figures, plus a whole load more info than any of us do.

I suddenly realised that they’re quarantining people from Portugal because cases are 20 per 100,000. It’s crazy 0.02%. You’d think it was ripping through the island killing everyone the way they’re reporting it.

There are two figures released for deaths

The main one stops at 28 days because - as most of us suspected already- data showed that those who died after 28 days died because of mainly other causes and so died with covid whereas with 28 days it was more likely that covid was the actual cause

So it gives a better indication of cases in society and the direct impact covid had on death

It’s explained clearly by PHE and the data was analyses my many different stats

@CherryPavlova if that's the case, then why did only 5000 ish deaths get removed from the figures (out of over 46000) when the government adjusted their way of counting deaths?

Do you understand exponential growth?

The low number of deaths doesn’t scare people enough, that’s why the government and the media keep banging on about cases

And why do you think that is? Might that be because those "scaremongering" rules are working?

Report
Kazzyhoward · 02/09/2020 16:45

The young and feckless (less likely to die) are ignoring precautions, social distancing, etc., so it's spreading between them.

The vulnerable etc are taking it seriously, so SD, hand washing, avoiding crowded places, etc., so they're not catching it.

No surprise at all that deaths have plummeted due to the above.

But deaths will start to rise again if the vulnerable start doing what the young are doing and pretending it's irrelevant. Or if the infected young take it into their workplaces/relatives homes, etc.

Yep, the infections/deaths are low BECAUSE most people are taking it seriously and taking precautions.

Do people realize that even a mildish dose not needing hospitalization can lead to months of feeling ill and not getting fully better for a very long time.
Not just old but younger people too?

In the meantime many more businesses will fail, people will loose jobs, homes will be repossessed and other medical conditions will go untreated because we’re all so scared of dying from coronavirus.

Well, you know that thing the government did? That thing everybody either stuck to like glue or ignored? Well, it worked well enough to reduce community infection rates. Yes, you read me... it worked

So all we have to do now is keep on doing what we are doing, tighten up the areas that are not until all areas have zero cases. Then we can assume that community infection rates won't rise at an exponential rate putting us right back where we started!

Or were all of those daily briefings wasted on you?

All that freely piublished information too?

Oh, no! You seem to be able to cherry pick some data!

The number of deaths has been falling for ages

It’s a nasty virus that has killed people and will kill some more

However the overwhelming vast majority of people who catch Covid will neither die nor suffer serious symptoms - even those in the most vulnerable groups are way more likely to survive than not

Viruses do that sometimes- it’s nothing new

So why do you think the chief medical officer believes we still need measures?

Because tbh you sound a little bit like a conspiracy theorist!

And a winter outbreak could increase infection rates enough to put the NHS back under breaking strain.

And a whole host of other factors that have been expounded upon ad nauseum!

Much higher percentage with Covid and much more serious impacts. This is not just fatigue but recordable organ damage.

We will not get to zero cases - and it’s crazy to think otherwise. If that is the aim we may as well just top ourselves now and be done with everything.

A positive story of any kind covid related does not fit in with the media narrative to create and feed the covid hysteria so many have bought into
