Dentist updates anyone?

My teeth have rotted away from my pregnancy and I've already had a tooth ripped out during this pandemic but now I've got a hole in my tooth right at the front and scratches my tongue whenever I move it.

Does anybody in the industry have any updates, all im seeing when I good it's still on hold.

I’m booked in for a crown next month, only booked it on Friday so sure it will go ahead, yet the same surgery cancelled all of August’s checkups.
I thought check ups would be low risk with the benefit of taking patients money, but who knows.

Try phoning different surgeries if yours isn't open. I had a hygienist appointment this week and have check up ones for us all in a couple of weeks so not all are shut still. Good luck!

Mine is doing dental work but only for people having problems e.g. if a tooth is hurting then you can get a filling or crown but if it isn't then they are asking you to wait and only call them if you start to get pain.

My practice is definitely open too. I'd be happy with just a temp filling.

It's so annoying I had months of pain with my other thing and now this. Wish I could just replace them all now.

I’ve had two temporary fillings whilst waiting for this crown. Both lasted 3-4 weeks and cost me each time, I’ve given up now. Apparently you can buy some from Boots and do it yourself.

That's a bugger. I get free dental care thankfully.

I have seen them, they were like gold dust when I had my other tooth problem but it's just my luck my local boots is closed today. It happened whilst I was eating some shreddies this morning, not even hard.

Mine will only see patients in pain. I have a temporary filling that I put on from my local chemists.

what is the issue with dentists? ours says it's the governmental guidelines that still prevent them from operating normally (still only doing emergencies). But some seem to be open? how is that possible?

I think it's like everything in that they get given 'guidance' and some interpret it differently or some have more rooms so they can clean easier between clients.

We called for appointments last week; managed to get one for the hygienist in September so not bad, but for an actual checkup not until December

I've been in 3 times (once in June and twice in August)
I cracked a crown so sent them photos via email, had the dentist call me back to get me to have a look at it. As there was no pain, I didn't go back in until August to have the work done. 2nd appt was a temp crown and 3rd appt was the replacement crown

I guess it depends on the surgery

I was in for a regular hygienist visit (cancelled from May) last week. All OK - took a bit longer than usual - an hour instead of 45 minutes - because they can't use the electronic scalers because there's too much spray and have to do it manually. Full PPE, thorough clean between each customer. They've been doing emergency stuff since July.

I was told that they have to leave the room for 90 minutes between patients when doing aerosol type procedures.

Private dentists have been open for business since 8th June
We are doing all routine stuff Takes longer as pp said as no aerosol generating procedures happening And dentists themselves have to leave an hour in between treatments for cleaning

Nhs dentists aren’t working as normal as as far as I know because of their funding structure and huge backlog of broken teeth and lost fillings etc

So I've checked my mouth again and looks like it's just some old filling that's fallen out. So that should be easy to sort with temp filling when I can get some but I wonder if it should be acceptable by dentists because it's not the full thing.

Mine is back and has just texted me it's time for my check up and hygienist. I had a filling booked before lockdown but haven't contacted them about that yet. Best thing is to just call them.

Have they done it for you or do mean with the shop bought stuff?
Ive managed to get some but keeps falling out.

Are they doing a proper filling for you yet?

The issue is that NHS ones are still being paid the same to see 20 percent of their cases. Theyve milked the system. Private dentists have been back since June. We own a dental laboratory and all our private dentists are working at pretty much the same capacity as previously. The NHS ones have all but given up. Theyre shooting themselves in the foot long term - all this does is prove to the Gov that dentistry can be privatised bar a few dental hubs just offering extractions. Its very much going to be a 'you get what you pay for' system.

Your teeth haven't rotted because you're pregnant. You can't blame dentists for your oral health issues... just don't. If your teeth have rotted, they started doing so long before dentists were forced to close. Of you take some responsibility, once they are fully open, you're bound to have a more beneficial outcome.

There is a reason people that are pregnant get free dental care and its also free for a year after giving birth. Being pregnant can absolutely lead to tooth decay, gum disease etc. Maybe read up on this before having a pop at the OP.

Teeth ARE affected during pregnancy so either you're ignorant mrsmorton or just unpleasant.
