Public bus or lift share to school?

Last school year we lift shared with another family and it worked really well. We all work shifts so there was almost always someone who could take the kids, and the other mum worked part time so could always collect. If none of us could take then they got the bus but that probably happened 2 or 3 times.

So far I haven't broached the subject with the other family for what we will do this year, I am fairly relaxed about risk but they may feel differently, especially as DH and I both have lots of contact with the public at work. I can take DD most days, and they will probably be able to take their daughter most days, but it seems such a waste of time and petrol for two cars to make the journey instead of one. Regardless, there will inevitably be days when one or other family can't take their child. In that situation, do you think it would be better for them to get a possibly crowded bus, or to lift share? The kids will be in the same classroom all day (same set) so will be mixing anyway, but obviously it does increase the risk to the adults.

I think lift share seems like a no-brainer but wanted others' opinions. And also, would you do the lift share every day or only on days when they would otherwise have to get the bus?

I’d car share, Especially if your children will be together during the day anyway. I think we will have to here- our local buses are normally really busy lots of local schools telling children not to use buses. We live too far to reasonably walk.
