How long did your test results take to come back

Last night I had a fever of 39.6, had chills/shakes and vomited 4 times in the night. We ordered tests for the whole family and have been told they should arrive tomorrow.

Today I am feeling much better, my temp is now 37.4 and am convinced I've had 24 stomach bug not COVID. We are obviously isolating until we have done test and get a (hopefully) negative result. But how long does that take? I have a 6 year old with SEND who is climbing the walls because he can't go to the park.

You might have seen my post - I am still waiting for results from a test posted this time six days ago.

Also one done yesterday 1pm.

Someone from work did one last week and got results within 12 hours. Seems to vary. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

Dd had drive by test. First results came through within 12 hours but were inconclusive. 2nd test results within about 20 hours. It's definitely worth making sure you follow all the 'testing guidance ' as getting inconclusive results prolonged the agony of isolation! Good luck and glad you sound bit better today.

Thanks Ladies. Our home tests still haven't arrived and I wanted to try and speed things up a bit so have just been to the drive through test. They seemed confident that I'll get something back in 24 hours. Hope so. My son is climbing the walls with frustration at being stuck inside...:

How long did your results take in the end? I've been tested this morning and hoping to hear ASAP.

Me too @mamma2016! I've been coughing since March due to hayfever but it got worse yesterday so I was tested at a drive through testing centre. I was told it was up to 48 hours but I'm hoping it'll be sooner than that!

I hope you're ok.

Was that a home test or drive through @ramakinsmarties?

For those of you waiting for home tests, not to try and patronise you, but did you actually register online after you received the box test? My husband managed to miss this step and it’s required for them to notify you.

Drive thru took about 7h 2.30pm to 11pm by email, next morning by text.

My in hospital one took about 13h from 2am admission (appendicitis).

Never been so grateful to have a car as we'd probably still be waiting for the postal test from Saturday afternoon!

And the results are in...negative!

Took almost exactly 24 hours from point of test at the drive thru test centre. Home tests took forever to turn up.

Off to take DS to the park now Grin

I've had multiple tests as I work in a care home, both at work and postal home kits, my quickest test result took 3 days, my longest 5, and I had one test I never received a result for.

I hope it doesn't take that long! When I booked it the NHS website said I'd get the result tomorrow but when the email came through it said up to 5 days! I don't want to have to stay at home for 5 days if it's negative (obviously I will)!

Was wondering same. Dh and I were tested earlier at a drive through centre. Due to visit elderly dm who has been self isolating and is only just starting to venture out again , so can't take any risks. Hoping for negative sooner rather than later.

Approximately 11 hours. My results came via email at 1am!

I'll be checking my emails in the middle of the night! I'm hoping they are quick as DH is self employed and part way through a job. He needs to let his client know that he's either going to be back on Monday or at least 14 days!

Looks like it's often a quick turn around. I'm still waiting but it's not been 24 hours yet... Hope you hear soon @PinkSparklyPussyCat

I’ve had my result - negative so it looks like I’ve got a cold! The email came through at 4.23 this morning and the text a couple of hours later.

Hopefully you’ve had yours as well @mamma2016

We did a postal test, and posted it on Wednesday afternoon. We got the results back yesterday evening at about 7pm (about 27 hours turnaround) - both negative. We recieved texts and emails. I was impressed at how quick it was.

My DH and I were tested at a drive in centre 11 weeks ago - we are still waiting for the results!!!

My email to the health secretary congratulating him on achieving 100,000 tests a day but pointing out it was only a step forward if the results were sent strangely never got a response!
