Think DH has coronavirus

Could anyone who has had it or know anyone who has had it tell me their hopefully reassuring experiences please?

I’m so worried, especially as my elderly parents visited us today (before the cough started later)

Go and get him tested! You should be able to get an appt first thing in the morning at a drive in centre.

Asking other people will not change it for hour husband. You nedd to get tested ASAP.

Op what do you want people to tell them? Lots of people have different experiences and symptoms. Some people have no symptoms, Adobe end up in hospital or worse. User123 saying she had just a cough for a day and didn't give it anyone isn't any use.

Can you get to a drive in test centre tomorrow?

Ring and get a test and don't worry until you have to or you'll drive yourself crazy

Tell anyone he's been in contact with in the last 2 days, if you can trust them to be sensible. Then book a test for tomorrow. Worst case you can call people back to say it isn't.

My friend's DH was very poorly with the fever for a few days (helped by paracetamol), but within a few weeks even his cough died down and then he just had a few more weeks being more tired than usual. Her case was even milder. I hope your DH and family are all well, many people are. Your parents may not catch it, even if he got symptoms today, but they should isolate in case.

We have already registered for the postal test, can’t go to the test centre because we don’t drive and for obvious reasons don’t want anyone driving him.

Yesterday he had a blocked nose so just thought he had a bit of a cold, developed ‘achy’ feeling all over today but attributed that to playing with the kids yesterday, about an hour ago he started coughing.
Dry cough and frequent..
and now he’s feeling cold (it’s hot in here) so whether that’s going to develop into a fever soon I don’t know.

Obviously it could just be a cold but he works in retail so interacting with huge numbers of people everyday and he has the dry frequent cough, and it looks like a fever may be developing.

I just wanted to hear some positive experiences incase the test comes back that he has it to calm me a bit.

Has he just developed a cough? I have ordered a test for my 4 year old (second one in a month ) because he randomly started coughing quite alot this afternoon. I will test him as it is the right thing to do and we will stay in, but I am not assuming it is coronavirus. It is more likely to be something else. Order a test or go to a test centre

Well my mum had it (confirmed), she’s 60, had a high temp, cough and headache for approx 4 days then fine.
I had it (suspected, no testing available at the time). I had a cough, aches and pains, fatigue, sickness and diarrhoea at the start, shortness of breath, chest pain and coughed up blood. I was ill for around 12 weeks but fine now.
But everyone experiences it differently 🤷🏻‍♀️

Get him to take paracetamol and lots of water now, regardless of what's wrong that'll help.

It might also be flu, there is still flu around.

My friend had cough, fever, loss of smell, sore throat, quite unwell - also works in retail - and was very worried because he lives with his mother who is a carer and in contact with vulnerable people. She had no symptoms. They both isolated, got tests, both negative. Testing is the right thing, but there are still plenty of cold/flu bugs going about.

He did say the postal test took a while to come/get the results which was a nuisance because his mum wasn’t sick, and only gets SSP if she is. They don’t drive either.

Still coughing but I will tentatively say he doesn’t seem too bad at all...
Seems to come in waves, he’ll go from being alright to wiped out and a bit feverish to alright again

Presumably you followed social distancing guidelines with your elderly parents, so should be low chance of them catching it.

Hi OP.

I've had covid, tested positive last month.

For me it was a mild illness and one of the less debilitating things I've had when compared to things like tonsillitis, glandular fever, hypermesis.

Coincidentally, my symptoms were predominantly cold-like including a very runny nose and swollen glands, quite tired. I was shocked to have tested positive as initially I thought it was allergies.

Some might come along and say I may have been asymptomatic with covid and had a cold aswell but I'm not sure that was the case. Too coincidental.

A runny nose has been added to the list of symptoms just not one of the well known ones.

I didn't have a cough or shortness of breath. I did lose my taste though, well I could taste one thing.. metal, everything taste of metal.

At no point did I need medical intervention. My GP just called me and told me to take high strength vitamin D, vitamin C and zinc.

I was back to normal before the quarantine period finished, to give you an idea of how short lived it was for me.

Please don't worry. Most cases will be like mine, very mild.

If it weren't for needing to quarantine myself I could have happily gone about my business as usual.

Don't forget to register the test kit online when it comes otherwise he won't get the result (My DH made that mistake)

It does sound like it. Everyone's symptoms are different. Very important to contact all he has been in contact with until he gets his results. Although they should be OK as he will have socially distanced. Might be best for you and kids to be tested too.

Sounds like it could be. Are you in an area with many cases? Working in retail will be risky so more likely than most.

Little update, the test arrived but missing the swab so had to order another which has been done and sent off.

Since I posted DH has been absolutely fine, not coughing much at all, no fever etc but today the cough is noticeably worse and I’m really starting to get very anxious again

@Borderstotheleftofme - do you suffer with health anxiety normally? Would you be freaking out if your OH got a cold & a cough normally? Or even if he had flu? Because for most people, Corona is no worse than a really bad cold or flu. Not pleasant but you are ill & then you get better. 99% of people recover from Corona. Yes, there may be long term impacts for some. But we can’t be that sure about how bad, how long they last etc etc & it’s def not everyone. So there’s no point worrying about it. You’ve just got to take the ride & see what happens. You can’t change the fact he may have it at this point. If he’s got it, then keep an eye on him, yourself & your family. You’ll most likely all be OK. But what happens next is out of your control.

Equally, he may just have a cold & cough. I’m chokka full of cold at the mo. Full on snotty mess! It’s not corona. There are over 100 summer flu deaths a day at the moment, flu is also still going round. It’s killing more people than Corona at the mo by some distance! Just to give some perspective. Not because I think your OH will become seriously ill!

Take some time to breath, be positive & distract yourself OP.
