I'm going to go with 'crowd pleasing bullshit which won't actually be acted on, but by the time we notice that, there will be some desperate people in a dinghy that they can distract us with'.

When/where did they announce there's going to be an announcement?

Report
ShellsAndSunrises · 12/08/2020 13:31

Is there definitely an announcement? I thought they were just going to confirm whether or not beauty/casinos/all the other things that are still closed have to remain closed, which I'm expecting to be the case given that the number of cases hasn't improved (although hospitalisations and deaths have).

However, with the two week period almost up, the Prime Minister's spokesperson has addressed when measures may be eased.

He said: "When we paused that section of the road map I think we said it was until the end of this week at the earliest, we'll continue to review the data and at the end of this week, we will set out a decision on whether or not we’re able to go ahead with the opening of those remaining sectors of the economy.

"We have been reviewing the publication of the daily death statistics and I'd expect us to be providing an update on this shortly."

I have a feeling that "setting out a decision" is going to mean they'll release a statement, rather than anything else - especially as Boris is on holiday for 2 weeks now, isn't he?

God knows, we must all wear bobble hats and skip instead of walk? Locking everyone who’s ever had a cold forever?

The way this govt is going nothing would surprise me anymore.

We're due our Leicester lockdown review by a Friday, if they extend the current rules by another 2 weeks that will take us last school re-opening, so they will have lost the entire summer holidays.

As it stands In the city we are now on 4th July rules with hairdressers and pubs open.

Outdoor playgrounds should be open but the council has decided it's too big a risk so they're still all locked up within the city boundary. No visitors to private homes or gardens and can't leave the boundary to visit anyone outside the boundary in their home/garden.

But kids can all go to school in 2 weeks and mix 30 households (primary, hundreds in secondary) indoors with no social distancing.

Fab, brill, all makes perfect fucking sense!

It sounds absolutely shit Sad

Although I don't think the Gov actually realise you go back in August. If I remember correctly when you first locked down the schools had just broken up, yet the Gov said kids could still go to school...

They don't know their arse from their elbow.

Will they make an announcement about travel corridors? France and Greece are hanging in the balance and I’m wondering if they will put them in quarantine by the end of this week.

I assumed there would be an announcement in time for the 15th. I didn’t consider it to just be a statement, but you are probably correct @ShellsAndSunrises

@Jussayingisall because we're on 4th July rules so shops, pubs, restaurants can be open.

But

  • no socialising at home in or outside
  • no meeting other households in restaurants, pubs etc
  • no swimming pools, leisure centres or gyms
  • council have decided to keep parks locked
  • no bowling or cinema
  • most holiday care/clubs have stayed closed
  • no tattooists/beauty treatments/nail salons

You get the gist

Unless it's the lifting of all restrictions and the repeal of all emergency government powers then Johnsons head should be on a spike.

When will Manchester's restrictions be reviewed? The MEN was saying yesterday that the whole of GM may end up locked down as the rates in Oldham are still rising and are as bad as in April. I'm on the outskirts of GM and wondering how schools can open in 3 weeks with things like they are. Our Mayor has said track and trace needs to be much better to give parents confidence but I can't see anything significant improving.
