Indoor visits when the weather turns

Can I ask your thoughts on this?
I've read that it should be 2 metres apart and if closer wear a mask. I know its so vague but there's also mention of it being airborne inside for 5 hours.
What will you do when the weather turns?
We've had close family visits in the garden so far and not keen for inside stuff yet.

Honestly? I'll be minimising indoor visits as I'd much rather other (braver) people go ahead of me in the covid queue.

I'm worried about winter but happy to be proved wrong!

I think I’ll just carry on seeing my parents outside. They’ve got an awning and a gazebo in the garden (somehow managed to squeeze them in as the garden isn’t massive!!). They’re spoken about getting outdoor heaters but not sure if that will be viable.
I really want to just be able to go round to their house, but ultimately it won’t be worth it.

My friends I’ll probably see indoors if they’re willing to take the risk but will keep windows open and stay distanced. Not likely that will be often.

Yes I think I'm the same. Not looking forward to the awkward conversations!

Have you got a garage?

Yes

Mum and dad have an awning and have recently bought a gazebo. Mum is eyeing up garden heaters, so they're planning ahead.

Ok but why aren't you meeting inside??

Report
MummaPI · 10/08/2020 00:58

Because the message is clear that it should be outside rather than inside

Inside transmission is causing some of the spikes we are seeing at the moment

Interested to see what happens here when it’s regularly -30 and below between November and March.

This is bothering me, my parents are on at me to go inside their tiny retirement apartment but it's impossible to distance, they are going and visiting multiple friends houses and any effort to be sensible is lost, they should have been shielding but refused. Likewise my friend, she and her wife both work in care homes and they are carrying on as normal, yesterday they visited three different people at home.

My mum is the same and I’ve given up trying to speak with her. So I haven’t seen her for more jan a few more socially distanced on her street. If she was more cautious in her behaviour then I’d be able to spend more time with her. As if rands she is giving Tom, Dick and Harry lifts everywhere, coffee with neighbours and having her other grandchildren stay other. Oh there was also my sisters 21st birthday party too... I just give up.

So to get back to OP, if we are allowed back in gardens (I am in the north west) then that’s where we will stay. I won’t be inviting anyone in as it gets colder.

Thanks all, so tricky isn't it. There really is two sides to this isnt there and who know which side is right! I am being over cautious but my husband and I are both keyworkers so feel we get enough exposure and family members who want to come round are not being cautious. We feel our house is our worry free, safe place.
Would love to hear some quirky ideas for winter visits!

Tbh a lot of people are now meeting indoors and out and are not social distancing whilst doing so. It seems people have forgotten that bit. Ive seen photos on social media the last few weeks and everyone is hugging, sitting together, cuddled up for selfies etc. So to answer your Q, most people will carry on regardless of the weather

My parents living room is massive. It’s easy to sit 2 metres apart, even with DF on his occupational health recliner, DM on one sofa and us on another. There’s even a third sofa in there for DB’s family, you’ve just got to beat the dog to it Grin

This is true and most of them will not experience covid. (At home with covid at the mo and bitter as we followed all the rules). People have to make their own decisions, the one thing I'd say to everyone is dont let someone force you into getting close/meeting up/going somewhere if your gut says not to. This virus sucks

I'm with you op, I've not been in anyone's house since all this began and no plans to either . Trips to people's gardens probably last about 1.5 hrs as it then needs a loo visit so we come back home!

I am not worrying about it. We don't socialise much. Any one of the adult size people in our household might have one (sometimes just 10 minutes) indoor private home visit/week at moment, typically. Our weak link is a very sociable teenager but she is working temp job 38 hrs/week in next month which is going to exhaust her introverted self. One day at a time.

ohthegoats · 10/08/2020 09:17

If you've got children, the weak link will be them via school. They'll be doing exactly all the things were5being advised not to do.

We've bought a gazebo and a fire basket (prob not used together!!) to facilitate our winter get togethers. I'm giving everyone quilts for xmas.

We are getting hot water bottles, blankets and a gazebo and some thermals. Want to keep seeing my mum outside as she is vulnerable.

Mum messaged me today to see if I think she should give the downstairs loo exterior access or buy a portaloo/build an outside loo.

My dad and his buddies think we're looking at three years of this if the government doesn't get a grip.

Report
MereDintofPandiculation · 10/08/2020 18:46

Hiring a portaloo is better, then the hire firm will do the emptying.

Report
Slytherin · 10/08/2020 19:36

We’ll just be meeting inside, as we have been doing, taking precautions like anti bac in the bathroom etc.
I’m not going to spend my foreseeable years in fear.
