to have run out of sympathy for people who find masks 'uncomfortable'?

It might be because I'm out of tolerance for a lot of things at the moment but I've had enough of the 'but my face gets hot' and 'couldn't possibly wear one for 2 ours straight' brigade.

Barring medical exemptions, I think people just need to suck it up.

I wore an FFP3 mask at work day in day out for hours at a time for years. Yes, it's weird at first and it gives you spots and makes your eyes dry and sometimes your lips dry, but your body will adapt if you keep at it. (honestly, be glad it's not a rubber half mask or a powered respirator, both of which I've also had to wear all day for years and are grim/loud respectively)

If your glasses are fogging or it doesn't fit right try a different type - there are lots available. Mouldable nose strips really help with the specs.

You will need to speak very clearly when you talk so you can hear each other (I know it's shit if you have hearing loss - that is a situation I still have sympathy for).

Honestly, get one/a style that fits you properly, and get on with it, you'll get used to it. It really isn't that bad, and will save lives!

So... YANBU = people need to mask up and get over it
YABU = masks are the worst and comfort is more important

YABU. People are 'sucking it up' by wearing masks. Doesn't mean it can't be uncomfortable though.

They make my glasses steam up -tried a few, makes no difference. Can't not wear glasses because I can't bloody see then.

Wearing a mask and 100% compliance to rules while hating it arent mutually exclusive.

I wear my mask 100% as I have to. However I dont have to like it.

If it stopped me from going out more ( it doesn't btw) then all the better for everyone else no?

Just because you can cope with stuff doesn't mean everyone is the same. I hate wearing them due to some past trauma but I'm doing my best.

I agree if people are refusing to wear masks for those reasons (seriously my face gets hot and glasses steam up??? ) but if they are wearing them but just expressing that they feel uncomfortable that's not your business. If that's the case stop the "I've had it worse than you because I've worn it longer" it's not a competition.

You know people may tell you it’s coz their glasses steam up because they don’t want to tell you their trauma?

Yes..I work in a supermarket and I didn't think I could do it. But I can. We are all managing and getting used to them and it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

Got it in one. I will wear it. But I'm going out a lot less. I guess that's good for everyone else if not for the economy.

I'd count past trauma as medical exemption on mental health grounds.

@Frlrlrubert I don't care what you think. Many people do find them uncomfortable and if that bothers you that's your problem. I get fed up of whingers like you moaning that other people don't like wearing masks. I hate it and will avoid going places it's necessary but will wear one when I do. Why do you think that your opinion means I should change how I feel about it?

Also where is anyone seeing the vast majority NOT wear masks?? I have been in the south, south west ish and SE and everyone is wearing them.

Maybe two or four adults not in masks since it was compulsory.

Hopefully they are exempt and I just dont have the energy to wonder or care or find outrage.

My son has ASD so thank fuck he is still 8

Why should I have to tell you I was orally raped and had a hand put over my mouth and nose as I was pinned down and raped?

Why can’t I just make the excuse that it makes my glasses steam up.

Honest to god I am sick fed up with this mask shite meaning I have to wear a lanyard get a badge mark myself out and tell every nosy bastard with a clipboard what happened to me.

I'm not saying I've had it worse (though the rubber half masks really were the pits), I'm trying to say that if you persevere it really does get better because you adapt.

We had staff not work out and leave quite quickly after starting for a lot of reasons but no one ever left because they could cope with the mask.

@Legoandloldolls exactly. I went to the supermarket this morning and there wasn't one person either not wearing a mask or not wearing it over their nose. Same last weekend and the weekend before.

People who have problems with glasses steaming up should try an anti fog cloth or spray. I've found it really effective.

I just stick to quick shopping trips now. My face gets so sweaty and so I'm just avoiding things where I'm required to wear them.

I will wear one where I have to. But it's still uncomfortable and steams my specs up. And as soon as we don't have to wear one I won't.

Report
Enchantmentz · 08/08/2020 11:34

I think yabu, in normal times people wear what they are comfortable with and avoid stuff they don't. Masks are the exception to this and most people will still do it despite the discomfort.

I don't have any exemptions from wearing a mask so I tolerate them for as long as possible before I start retching prior to taking them off. I have this issue with clothes if I feel restricted from anything to my socks to my bra I will retch so much to almost vomit. I can't help it and should be able to grip about it if I want to.

YABVU. The whining from everyone who isn't happy that not everyone wearing a mask is bouncing around with glee is infinitely more tedious. Why isn't it enough for you that the majority of people are wearing them? Why do they have to be thrilled with it? People are allowed to express discomfort. Why the need to control how they feel about masks?

You should not have to tell anyone.
I'm sorry this happened to you and that the questioning is happening to you.

But I don't think telling people you're breaking the rules because of steamy glasses is the answer to that.

I hate it because of glasses and the heat here right now makes it awful
But I will wear it without any hint of a moan when I’m out.
I am just going out minimally

I’m not. I have a fucking lanyard and a fucking great big card on the end of it. But why shouldn’t someone make an excuse

And if they are wearing the mask what the fuck does it matter if they moan?

Report
Squirrelblanket · 08/08/2020 11:39

As long as people are wearing them, then they can moan all they want. It's not your business to police other people's opinions.

Report
MooneyBadger · 08/08/2020 11:41

If people (who are able to) are wearing their masks, I really don't see the problem in them expressing that they find them uncomfortable.

Personally I find the 'everyone else should be more like me' types far more irritating than someone complaining that their face itches or their glasses steam up.

It's not real-life Top Trumps.
