Covid

Still in shock

Is it just me? I still can't quite believe what has happened and is still going to happen for the foreseeable. I've stopped going out, not because I'm worried about getting Covid, but because the whole face mask, social distancing, queuing, booking ahead, craziness is just too upsetting.

I know how you feel. I've felt panicky today as well about the "new normal" but now I've just seen the news that only 11 people have died from Covid today. Let's just hope things will continue to improve.

Move here. Hardly anyone is wearing a mask, very few are social distancing and you can go in any pub you want. We've got a fairly high transmission rate though, so you may be swapping anxiety about modifying your behaviour for catching a potentially deadly respiratory disease. Guess it depends on your priorities really. 🤷

I'm exactly the same. I forget about it for a wee while, then an advert comes on or the news comes on and it all comes back like a bad dream.

Yep. I can't get my head around it. We were told to stay at home because of a virus. It's like a bloody film.

I'm back to not sleeping. I'm worried about my dds going back to school in September.

I don't want to wear a face mask I really don't but if it reduces community transmission I will. So I am going to get some material this week and make bandana type ones in funky material.

Yes life is weird, but I am trying to just ride the wave now rather than fight it, it won't be forever.

Yes. Some days I still feel very tearful about how much our lives have changed, and not for the better.

I feel so bad for the young, the university leavers, the school leavers. For the poor, the already disadvantaged children, the women who are disproportionately affected. It's just so sad and so out of our control which is the hardest bit.

I wore a mask to the shops today, it does take a bit of getting used to, but if it helps I'll wear it.

How weird we're all going about in masks and visors.

It’s Monday though. Monday figures are always low because they have caught up from the weekend. 11 is still very positive though.

Yep, I’m exactly the same, OP. I know people who were initially terrified to the extreme about contracting the virus, who are now out and about like normal...meanwhile, I’m avoiding going out at all costs for the reasons you mentioned, and also for fear of being shouted at for unintentionally doing something “wrong”.

I feel like I'm mourning my old life, and the world as it used to be. I feel very sad when I go out because I can't forget for a moment what has happened. When I'm pottering at home doing stuff I do forget which is a relief.

Yes. Still can't get my head round it all. I'm not working, and go out very little atm. It's a shock to see all the signs, one way systems in streets, no boarding at bus stations, plus all the disembodied voices issuing instructions in supermarkets etc; it's so.....well, weird!

KayEngel · 13/07/2020 19:23

@RhubarbTea yes exactly the same with me. So for the rest of the summer, I've decided to stop watching the news, no reading online either including mumsnet. I can't take it anymore.

I agree OP, we all want our lives back. Thing is, we have to get out there, get used to the new ways of living, or we’ll have no lives at all. You can’t live like a hermit , think it’s very different for those of us who’ve been working all through it. Perhaps we have more confidence.

I've written the rest of this year off, socially. Can't imagine pubs/restaurants being much fun now.

My friend travelled to London today to work as her boss required her to - she asked a woman opposite her to wear her mask and the woman called her a fucking cunt

Happy days

whatever happened to 'flatten the curve'?

Report
KayEngel · 13/07/2020 19:35

Yes. We were supposed to flatten the curve. We did but now it seems nothing but eradication is good enough.

🤣🤣 so true!! I’ll also enjoy the suspension in not worrying if I’ve blended my foundation properly over my jawline. Every cloud...!

Every single morning I wake up and it takes a few seconds to hit me again. Still can't believe it.

At least during lockdown we knew what we were meant to be doing and we always knew lockdown would be lifted. But where are we now? It feels like some sort of half-life that could go on for ages where nobody knows quite how to behave.
