So fed up lockdown again

Hi all

Just a vent really. Three months of lockdown, with one glimmer of hope we may get our uk holiday mid July only to find out holiday company cancelled it with no notification as we couldn't get through to pay on time on hold over 6 hours all in all over weekend. Lost deposit then found an alternative Sunday only to discover we are now in new lockdown zone and had to cancel this holiday now too. And prospect back to square one for at least two weeks.

I know first world problems and we will get on with it and follow the rules but just feeling sad and angry. Actions of the few have spoilt it for us all here in Leicester

We’re in the same position, just inside the lock down area and due to go on holiday. Did you cancel the holiday? Were you able to get any money back or move it? We’re not sure what our options are at the moment.

Nope. Easing restrictions will see a rise in cases. Why? Because lockdowns don't work to eliminate the virus, they merely slow it. Easing lockdown = inevitable rise in cases at some point.

Plus, there's now more testing available. At the peak it was nigh on impossible to get tested. More tests being done? Of course there's more positive cases.

Everyone in Leicester could have been following the rules to an absolute T - the virus would still be present.

@Haveheart we have cancelled it this morning I guess it depends on your date of travel if it is after the 18th you may be lucky if they lift everything after only two weeks but you should be able to have a refund or rebook as essentially we're banned from travelling. Good luck with whatever you decide, let's hope this doesn't last too long

Don't blame the few. Hancock seems to be banging on about schools a lot. The very schools that we have just been told we HAVE to send our children to in September OR ELSE... It seems they've suddenly decided children could pass it on after all, or maybe just in Leicester...

I'm so sorry you've lost out on your holidays.
The way they've announced this with no detail of how people will be affected must be very unsettling and I'm concerned that like everything else is being approached in a disproportionate, haphazard way.

This is why we can't book a holiday for this summer not even a tent one as who knows where and when will be in lockdown and until pools open even with timed slots, not ideal but would do, can't see how it will be a holiday. Yeah all pants hope additional lockdown doesn't drive you too mad.

Indiana that is blatantly ridiculous. NZ eliminated it! Scotland could do.
If people stayed in for 4w it would be gone. (Obviously nooe would be able to enter the country then though. )

It's rubbish and unfortunately it's going to hit the areas with less immunity most.
Even if people ignore the rules eventually they will catch it be immune and then cant spread it.

It is nobody's fault. It's just the way things are there.

People have tried the blame game all along on here, claiming those who went out for a run or two walks a day would spread the virus and lockdown would have to be stricter or last longer. It is not true.

this is true, but who would staff the hospitals, the supermarkets, the electrical supply stations, the power stations, the telecoms operators etc? You can't have a complete lockdown.

I think it's a stupid response. It will achieve little other than further economic misery and a brief slow-down of more cases.

Nope. NZ currently has 22 cases that they know of. And yes - they will have to keep their borders closed for the indefinite future. That's going to be tough to manage.

As a PP said - if we all stayed indoors completely for four weeks, globally, we might be able to eliminate it for good. Might.
There's no way to enforce that though. Plus, it would have to be unannounced, otherwise there would be mass panic buying and mass transit just beofre the four week lockdown, which would serve to spread the virus very nicely, then shutting carriers in with potentially vulnerable people. This lockdown would need to be TOTAL - so no emergency health services, no emergency plumbers, no fire services, etc. The people locked in with COVID would need to stay in and take their chances. Same with fire - no fire service etc. If your house gets burned down no one else would be allowed to take you in.

Of course - this just wouldn't happen. Human nature doesn't allow this to happen.

When people talk about others 'breaking the rules' - it's not always a bad thing. Can you imagine that a mother whose baby stops breathing during the total lockdown is going to watch her child die rather than to the street and beg for help? Do you imagine that the doctor living down the street isn't going to go out and help her?

Thousands of incidents would occur over those four weeks, all needing human intervention. And humans would intervene.

Why anyone thinks that lockdown would ever do anything other than slow the virus, I cannot fathom.
