For Coronvirus was only 6, it hasn’t been that number since March. At the peak it was nearly 900 in one day.

The lockdown clearly made a big difference but now with the relaxations will things change?

I don't believe we will see a spike from outdoor gatherings. The pubs and hospitality opening are another matter. Time will tell. Lets hope not.

It is good news to see numbers on the wane but still that is 6 people too many with lots of families still very anxious having loved ones in ICU.

It'll rise again if people don't abide by the restrictions & they continue to ignore warnings & throng to beaches....some shocking scenes yesterday. It is utterly selfish & they are putting lives at risk. Is it just uneducated ignorance or is it with full knowledge that they could bring the virus into their own home/family...& they just do not care

I think it will come back in autumn with all the other bugs. Make the most of being outside while you can, lockdown in winter will be very hard. Have your family round in the garden and make the most of it. Meet in Parks and outside but take your rubbish home Smile

Out of the 6 that died 5 were over 80. Yes all lives matter but at that age it might not have just been coronvirus that killed them.

I always felt the restrictions on outdoor gatherings were unecessary and OTT, which (IMO) has been proven by the fact that there's been no increase while they've been allowed (or while they happened in breaches of the rules).

I also think it's interesting that there's been no increase while schools have been taking higher numbers? Children and schools really aren't the hit bed of infection we thought? Or schools have beeen spectacularly good at managing hygiene and infection control? Personally I think the latter as the person in charge of that stuff at our school

Pubs do worry me. I was out with a group running last night. Often after a race we'd end up in a pub. All law abiding basically decent people whi have stuck to the SD rules but after a number of celebratory drinks....everyone lets their guard down and does things they wouldn't usually do, even if it's only mild things like hugging people or sitting a bit closer than you intended.

Since it's been allowed, I've been glad to go and have a cuppa in my parents' garden. Today, technically, I can go indoors but I'll be happier if we stay on the garden, for their sakes.

That said, if there are few cases now, in the community, the risk really is very low.

Deaths in all settings were 149, 6 were from hospitals in the UK. I’m assuming the rest will be care homes?

Yes. Although you have to sit in family groups I think so it may not be too bad - nobody allowed standing at the bar. I know what you mean though, I went to a wedding just before lockdown and at the beginning everyone was keeping their distance and doing elbow bumps, by the end everyone was hugging and kissing!

R factor hovering round 1, possibly above.
WHO warning and Chris Witty even tweeted yesterday about the risks........
not at all sure about Boris relying on everyone's "common sense" with street parties in London, madness on the south coast beaches and Liverpool celebrations.....

6 are English hospitals who died in the previous 24 hours and already been reported. The others in the149 will be English hospital deaths from earlier, deaths in hospitals in other parts of the UK, and carehomes. I look at the figures daily and recently it tends to be less than 10 deaths announced that took place in the last 24 hours then the day after 20 odd more added. It's still positive of course, moving in the right direction despite outside gatherings, protests etc.

I think this is true in a lot of the reported cases

Looking at the times when were said there would be spikes after the event (VE day, lockdown restrictions easing, the last bank holiday, the kids going back to school) and there was no spike, I am choosing to live I hope. I understand people are afraid of another spike, and there may be some rises here and there, but I dont think we will go back to the lockdown we just lived through. Maybe I will be proven wrong, but evidence here and abroad has shown that it doesnt revert back to peak times, or even near.

I think it will be similar to the 1918 virus which naturally ebbed and flowed and came in 3 waves . I think it will decrease during these summer months and will creep back in the autumn

So if the cases go down in similar fashion to how they rose, and taking account of current figures, in about two weeks we will be down to 0/1. I believe this is why 4th July has been picked for reopening. 1st August allows 3 weeks for being sure shielders can come out, if numbers go back up in this period they can stop this and protect the shielders whilst allowing everyone else to take cautious risk.

It's all looking very positive at the moment.

Of course there is a possibility is could change but I dont understand why people can't be hopefully and happy that so far what we are doing is working. All the doom and gloom predictions so far have been wrong, let's hope that continues.
