How does a COVID cough sound like?

I might be paranoid here but would like some advice please....I shopped in Asda this afternoon and was served by a lady at the till. When I was unloading my grocery onto the conveyor belt I heard someone clearing her throat, I was not sure whether it was the lady who was due to serve me or another staff, but when I looked up the lady who was supposed to serve me was chatting fine with the customer ahead of me. After all my grocery items went through the till and when I was about to pay, the lady serving me started to cough. It was just five or six coughs, and the poor lady was trying to cough into her top. It was not like uncontrolled coughing fit that sort of thing. I do hope she is ok, but I am also worried whether she has COVID symptoms. After returning home I disinfected all grocery items. Could someone please tell me how does Covid cough sound like? Sorry I might be too paranoid. Thank you very much.

Have a listen to this. It’s of a woman in ICU recovering from Covid. It is quite graphic.

Thank you very much. What I heard didn't sound like that. Thanks, that is useful to know.

I don't know if it will sound the same in each person. It may depend on how badly it has effected the lungs and whether they smoke or not. What you heard in the shop could have been a smokers cough. Good idea to wipe down the shopping though.

I had the same experience yesterday in the shop. Everyone in the queue heard the man coughing and some left!

The same has just happened to me in Tesco's car park, a guy was returning a trolley, coughing quite badly and forcefully and no mask. I got straight back into my car and went to another shop.

A lot of people are extremely inconsiderate, just because they don't care they are forcing it on to everyone around them.

Disgusting and shameful behaviour.

I went on a run yesterday and breathed one of those tiny flies. Starting coughing and really alarmed nearby people. Tried to tell them it was just a fly but couldn't talk!

Sometimes people do just cough.

Yogalite, Many asthmatics cough violently. It is a symptom of many other chronic respiratory illnesses it is not disgusting or shameful.

I have terrible hayfever and started coughing in the busy park earlier today - I should have done my spray before we went out. Thankfully I had tissues in my pocket but felt like I should shout that it was hayfever in case anyone was worried. (I was actually asked to test by the Zoe app last week and it was negative!)

I still think people who cough should be a little more considerate and at least wear some sort of face covering in public indoor spaces - after all that's why the government recommends masks.

How are the others supposed to know they are not spreading the virus Confused

Thank you all for your kind replies. So far we are ok, so hopefully it was just a false alarm!

Mine was a single dry cough about every 15 mins. At first I didn’t notice till DH said your coughing, other symptoms developed, but very mild It was in March just before the first week of lockdown so we went into complete isolation.

Sorry. Not posted to worry you, but to highlight that not all coughs will be the same.

Definitely people cough for other reasons. Of course they do. But they really should wear a face mask in shops so not to cause panic.
