I'm keeping an eye on the Kawasaki type inflammation as there haven't been any numbers for a while, but saw here that the numbers doubled from 100 to 200 between end of May and mid June. Still small numbers but good to be aware of what to do if you have any concerns as this hasn't gone away.

I think it’s very obvious from around the world that children don’t get hit hard by corona. Thank god. They are the least likely to be ill. And most likely to be asymptomatic. It really is the only good thing about this whole shit show. They are gona spreaders though, hence the concern about schools.

I think people would be shocked to read how many kids end up in hospital on a yearly basis, some in ICU & how many tragically die. My friends kid was in ICU with chicken pox, which is crazy. And a colleagues kid developed sepsis from a cold 😣 You’ve just got to hope your kids are OK!

Considering the country has come to a standstill to stop this spreading and these cases got through regardless (with many more presumably needing oxygen), I find this worrying.

Yes I agree with this. It’s awful but children do get ill and do tragically die.
Despite the vaccination programme, 28 children died of flu last year. I’ve had one hospitalised with Kawasaki syndrome as a result of hand, foot and mouth and one hospitalised with complications of scarlet fever. A friend’s child was in ICU for 3 weeks after a common cold last year. These things happen, they just aren’t in the news. We’d be too petrified to ever let our children mix with others if these stats were reported regularly.

People have forgotten other illnesses effect children. When my son was 9 weeks old he ended up on oxygen in hospital for a week due to RSV which he got from catching a cold from his brother. He has also been in with scarlet fever. Dont get me wrong I am concerned about covid and my kids especially as one is only 7 weeks old but it needs to be kept in perspective that flu, sepsis etc are more of a threat to children

I think the numbers are very small compared to adults, I thought it was very reassuring. What shocked me were 21 children were white, 26 were BAME, the rest were unknown, out of 71.

Yes, I have just read the article @Barbie222 posted and over 50% were BAME in a sample of children

Over 6000 children under 2, die each year in the UK. Over 45000 children went to hospital in 2018. 71 children in ICU from Covid from ages 0 to 18 is a very small number.

Chicken pox is a horrible illness that can kill. God knows why we don't vaccinate routinely

In the briefing yesterday they said only 39 children have been admitted to intensive care with corona? Is picu not counted as intensive care?

We just got word that 16 children have it in Ireland. Our cases have been extremely low the last week so this is ?

Are you kidding me posting this as if mums are not petrified as it is !!!! A lot of mental health at the moment

And the number of children in care has gone up by almost 50% over the course of lockdown...

I don't think we need anyone to tell us if 76 is a large or small number. We can all count.

Actually I find this relatively reassuring. Obviously not for the children and their families but broadly it confirms to me that the risk to children is minute and that they need to get back to school ASAP. I wasn’t worried about my children being at risk and I’m still not

Confused oh yes, it's wonderful to blindly wander into oblivion. What do you mean a lot of mental health at the moment?
