Every day people are losing their jobs. Or are due to lose their jobs when the furlough scheme ends in October. And it is not only the furlough scheme a lot of women will be affected come September if schools do not open.

For me it is not too great. My job is at risk and there is a chance it could go in August or September so for the past month I have been applying to a lot of places. My background is finance and I have around 3 years of work experience. I have applied for warehouse roles, night shift sorters, finance roles and others but to no avail.

I'm starting looking today, I'm furloughed but fed up at home.
Wish I could be doing what I love best, but it isn't going to happen.

I'm surprised in this day and age you think women will be affected if schools don't open, apart from some sp maybe.

I'll keep you company on here, I'm going for warehouse too, my dsis works in this field and says social distancing isn't too bad. They have a designated person walking round all night making sure they don't get too close.

They will be, overwhelmingly more so than men.

That's a shame, it's like feminism never happened Sad

I quite fancy hospitality, but that's as bad ito being realistic as my old work.
Well off to find the warehouse jobs.

Got a remote job interview tomorrow. Struggling to work up any enthusiasm. I bet there's a zillion others going for it! Gah! My CV feels like it happened to someone else!

Aw, good luck, hope it goes well.
It doesn't matter how many go for it if you are the right candidate.
Has someone looked over your CV, not offering as only manage mine, but have been told it's beneficial.
My ds looked at mine after I had gone over and over it, he managed to see I'd written employee instead of employer at one point.

@Devlesko thank you for the good wishes! Feeling more prepared now I've spent the afternoon thinking and reminding myself of what I've done. I know what you mean about sometimes needing another pair of eyes on your CV! I think tomorrow is a bit of a long shot but what will be will be. Interview is 11am then I can chill and potter about! Full makeup tomorrow for 1st time since March, hope I remember how to apply it Grin

@Devlesko thank you hon x it went ok today I think! They have more ppl to see but I was made up, showed up and did the best job I could. I was interviewed by the business director and he was very complementary about my CV. It has been an ok day whatever happens x

I start in July.

Bit nervous tbh, as I'm shielding, and I'm not sure how they will react to that.

Thank you, I saw this the other day and wondered what on earth it meant.
I worked these hours in a factory in my late teens, might have a look at the job again.

Where did you find the remote jobs? I’ve been looking but can’t find much that’s actually remote.

Another silly question but what sectors are the redundancies in? Blush

I would love a new full time job - Living wage is fine for me.

I’ve been using Indeed and Reed so far. Any others?

I’m taking a bit of time to properly consider what I want next. I’m looking geographically further afield hoping that remote working might be an option going forward and if I can get a London based role the salary should more than make up for the hassle of having to go there say once a week or so.

I’m a lawyer and was convinced my job would be safe. I was wrong. I suspect a lot of other people may end up being in the same position and their secure job is nothing but.

Remote work:
I saw some jobs advertised on indeed. Didn't look too closely though.
I'll probably start considering these, now, but wasn't sure if I'd be motivated enough/fit in with home.

Reed have pages of discounted course on offer, I started a thread in chat, not sure if anyone is interested.
I'm not sure they are all accredited to well known colleges/uni's though.

@Teacuplady86 CV Library is a good one. Also Job Site and Monster. Also LinkedIn! (Which I never make enough use of). Although also good to contact the agent direct if you see a job that is particularly suitable.

@Devlesko, thank you again for the good wishes. I'm not counting my chickens but we'll see!

@FizzFan good idea, I'll steal your approach of looking further afield geographically in the hope of remote working!

@papermonster best of luck with your application. What field are you in?

The only question I found difficult to answer on Friday was what do I want out of a new role. not being made redundant again would be marvellous I've temped alot over the last couple of years and find going into new situations with new ppl, having to hit the ground running really rewarding. Doesn't earn the decent salaries I used to get in previous roles, must learn to be more aspirational in interviews!

I’m in education. We’ve had some redundancies announced - but not in our team. But I can’t see how our team can continue with so few students, so expecting yet more redundancies. Have applied in a different level of education.

Have been applying for work in a completely new location, looking ahead to the next 10 years before retiring. Was shortlisted for a role just after lockdown started and advised they'll update me once things get back to 'normal'. Haven't heard anything yet. Might give them a call next week. Other than that, appyling on usual sites, Indeed, CV Library etc. Would love to get something completely different.. can't tolerate much of what I do now.

I’ve just downloaded all the apps previously mentioned.

Problem is the area I’m in - not near a decent City so jobs are relatively hard to find Sad

They say “it’s who you know” and I know a lot of business owners & have LinkedIn but I’m too embarrassed to ask! Blush

Just come across this thread. Had a woman phone me a couple of weeks ago, was practically falling over herself to offer me the job as I have tons of experience in that field. Then she asked my age and said I was too old. Humph.

That is awful, they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.
I'm 53 and my business has completely gone, think schools, theatres, festivals etc.
I'm going to be lucky to find anything as well.
I did think of cooking in Care homes, but I'm not sure about the virus as not shielding but high risk.
There's not much about atm though, it's going to get worse before better. I'd advise anyone unemployed to take anything they can, and work from there. They say it's easier to get a job when you already have one.
