For instance a villa holiday in menorca end of July? What are my chances?

Do you have travel insurance that covers covid? Most new policies don’t at the moment.

I wouldn't risk it with 2 weeks quarantine still in place ... or book last minute like a fwe days before you go if things are better by then.

International flights are beginning to operate again, and counties are opening their borders, so in all likelihood you'll be able to go by the end of July. Your problem will be if our government are still imposing this crazy quarantine when you get back you'll be on house arrest for 14 days. If the FCO are still advising against travel any normal insurance policy won't cover you. Make sure you've got an ehic card in case there's any medical emergencies, or take out a high risk policy to which covers travel against FCO guidelines.

I wouldn't have to quarantine as I'm a key worker (no such luck more like!)

It's a possibility, if our infection rate doesn't go up.

The plan is to have the balearics are opening up again, at present they're doing an experiment with German tourists. It depends on our stats and faith in our government.

key workers don't have to quarantine? I knew lorry drivers didn't, but didn't realise key worker staff didn't.

I'm neurotic about money so wouldn't book anything with more than a week's notice. I've already lost money this year on cancelled travel.

I wouldn't, no. Unless you have lots of money to risk wasting!

So you don’t have to quarantine as a key worker after a holiday? I read it as key workers didn’t have to quarantine if they had left and returned to the U.K. due to work and that’s why lorry drivers for example didn’t have to quarantine.

Seems a bit pointless for anyone to quarantine if that’s the case.

Very small chance but still a possibility.

Spain planning to make British guests quarantine for 14 days as well unless UK drops it.

You need travel insurance. Hospitals are very very basic on the island if you have to use the 'free' service, I really can not stress to you how many bad experiences I have seen there over the years with people on the E111 cards. I would cancel if you can't get insurance cover personally.

OP it's only medical staff who have travelled to help right covid in other countries that are exempt from quarantine. I've got Portugal booked for end July and I'm a key worker too so have been keeping a close eye. I will go if possible. I work in ICU and have seen lots of covid patients so the thought of going abroad doesn't really bother me.

That's not what I've been told by a nurse from the GP practice- it's also said in many other places nurses can come back and not quarantine
Wouldn't be a massive issue for me anyway as I have the following week as annual leave and can home work the following week if need be

The exemption is for people travelling to the UK for the purpose of work from 8 June. It’s doesn’t apply to medical staff going on holiday at some point in the future. I assume it’s a moot point but we aren’t yet supposed to be going abroad for holiday and there is no need for an exemption.

OP you I've got your facts muddled plus surely a little common sense would tell you that medical staff will not be given a magic ticket to go on holiday without quarantine if that's what is deemed appropriate for the general population.

Do you normally take legal advice from medical staff?

Report
hopingtobedally · 17/06/2020 17:30

Legal advice?
I'm just saying what I've been told by a health care professional
As I've said it's also not an issue as I can work from home. Also many places are now encouraging travellers

I am a nurse and I hope that medical staff would need to quarantine after a holiday. Imagine the uproar if you brought Covid back from your holiday and spread it where you work. I wouldn't be happy to work with anyone who hasn't isolated after a flight.

Yes but I think it's medical staff providing healthcare in the country they are travelling to. So for example if a nurse or doctor came to the UK to help fight covid they wouldn't be quarantined. I think if the NHS as the UK's biggest employer didn't have to quarantine we would know all about it.

Chaotic45 · 17/06/2020 17:37

Seriously OP? Can you not see that means healthcare professionals who are travelling in order to provide essential healthcare.

Not those that fancy a nice holiday bug don't want to be subject to quarantine!

Even if youre interpretation was correct can you claim your role is 'essential healthcare'? The fact that you can wfh and don't seem very bright suggests not to me!

Dear me! It's fairly obvious that you won't just be able to not quarantine if you fancy a jaunt!

Chaotic45 · 17/06/2020 17:42

In that case they are also not very bright and it's a terrible shame that people's health may be compromised as a result.
