What would you like the govt to talk about in daily briefings?

Since MN is something that is read by journalists and, I presume, people who work in government, what issues have you been waiting impatiently to hear about in the daily briefings?

Mine are, in no particular order:

* a proper plan for the reopening of schools in Sept for ALL children

* child care/holiday clubs and activities for the summer holidays

* outdoor sports clubs - things like cricket, football, rugby, outdoor swimming pools and lidos

* ditto gyms, health clubs and pools

* hair salons and barber shops

* playgrounds and other outdoor leisure equipment

* holidays - in particular UK holidays of the SC kind what would allow for social distancing.

Schools and childcare definitely

Musicforsmorks Tue 16-Jun-20 13:18:39

Less sound bites more actual info.
Would be a start.

snappycamper Tue 16-Jun-20 13:19:18

I want to hear details of an actual plan for getting children back to school 100% of the time

namechangenumber2 Tue 16-Jun-20 13:21:31

Just schooling really. What are they doing now in regards to researching the safety aspect - do children spread it etc?. Is it really ok for teachers to swap between a bubble? This would make a big difference with regard to children getting back part time in September.

Delatron Tue 16-Jun-20 13:22:34

Answer why they have no plans for schools but are happy to focus on pubs, horse racing, restaurants, zoos.

Get the education secretary on. What has he been doing?

Sorryusernamealreadyexists Tue 16-Jun-20 13:29:55

What their plans are to help disabled children who yet again have not been mentioned.

Buckingham1988 Tue 16-Jun-20 13:35:05

My top two would be schools and NHS care restarting and how they clear the backlog.

Chewbecca Tue 16-Jun-20 13:35:19

Just schools - specifically reopening for everyone in September with no restriction.

FourTeaFallOut Tue 16-Jun-20 13:38:43

I'd like them to talk more about schools - what will schooling look like in September and wtf they mean by catch up schooling, about their medium plans for the shielded - even if the answer is none - so that people can make informed decisions and I'd like to hear how they will tackle the enormous NHS waiting lists for those with non covid health concerns.

Anewuser Tue 16-Jun-20 13:40:39

What are their plans for people shielding in England?

Weepinggreenwillow Tue 16-Jun-20 13:40:40

Schools, definitely. Personally particularly secondary schools as so much of the focus so far has been on primary schools.
Also, I'd like them to explain all the ridiculous, half baked, last minute extra measures they have brought in for NHS staff (mask wearing all the time) and NHS buildings which means basically a lot of our clinicians have been told not to come into work this week and we are once again cancelling patient appointments just when we were getting things up and running again.
But mostly I want them to explain why they seem to be doing bugger all about ensuring all children and young people will be back at school full time by September.

I am repeatedly submitting questions, writing to my MP and Gavin Williamson, all to no avail. sadangry

SpringerJS Tue 16-Jun-20 13:41:36

A proper, detailed plan for schools reopening, providing some leadership and forward planning
Plans for reopening of community / recreational sport

FourTeaFallOut Tue 16-Jun-20 13:43:33

And every time there is an evasive non-answer and regurgitated sound bite a member of the public should be given the opportunity to pelt them with rotten veg, from a 2 meter distance, of course

LaurieFairyCake Tue 16-Jun-20 13:44:26

I want them to say that they are going to SERIOUSLY INVEST LARGE SUMS OF MONEY in State Schooling so that Schools can reopen fully if there's no vaccine.

I STRONGLY suspect they're waiting to see if the vaccine pans out as they don't want to put money into state schooling - they've been run on a broken shoe string for years.

WhiteChocTwix Tue 16-Jun-20 13:45:10

I'd like to hear about recommendations for opening up care homes for socially distanced visiting. Also more about air bridges and getting people travelling again safely.

Lima45 Tue 16-Jun-20 13:45:48

Schools and GPs reopening to see people with physical issues rather than just phone consultations with painkillers prescribed.
Also when can physio sessions restart.

PicsInRed Tue 16-Jun-20 13:45:53

The actual state of our economy, how fucked it is and what they're planning to counter that.

GCSE’s next year and confirmation that they won’t blindly say “exams as normal” for kids who have missed a massive chunk of curriculum.

Schools back full time in September, or what alternative plans will be put in place for non key working parents who need to keep a salary going pay for the basics (to house and feed their children).

Flinstones Tue 16-Jun-20 13:46:48

Back to school for ALL children

flojo73 Tue 16-Jun-20 13:48:26

I would echo what weepinggreenwillow says to a t!

I would also ask what they are planning to do about the ever increasing gap between private and state education. Private school pupils(from speaking with friends who have children in the private sector) have been receiving timetables days, online lessons from the start and easy access to their teachers. My children's secondary school has just started online lessons this week. Yet, they will all sit the same exams next year.

I am appalled at how children are just being left at home. It's a disgrace.

A date for Antibody testing for everyone.

Track and trace - a proper one.

Compulsory enforced quarantine for all new arrivals.

Awareness of long-term sufferers of the virus.

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel Tue 16-Jun-20 13:49:03

A proper answer to the question of how parents are supposed to work while also looking after very young children without the vague answer given last time 'we hope employers will be understanding', or something like that.

Also, an update on when Antibody tests will be available to the general public again even if we have to pay privately for them.

Please allow outdoor sports clubs with whatever restrictions and open playgrounds. Then plans for getting all kids back into school and reducing the NHS backlog. When community cases are very low it seems like an ideal time to get on top of things.
