World beating Track and Trace

What's happened to this? I've lost track of days, weeks, months and now this. Boris was proclaiming it's worth last time I saw him on TV. Is it working? Has it gone countrywide? What's going on?

I think it's a manual version. You tell them your contacts and they call them. Whereas in the Asian covid-beating countries it is a smart app that informs the people who have been close by to an infected person, which/who they otherwise would not know.

I think they're going to introduce the app at a later date.
It's unlikely that our systems will ever be 'worldbeating' though, because they will be carried out on a voluntary basis, so some people just won't comply or will just fly under the radar. Still, at least they should catch a lot of cases.

Sorry to be dim, obviously I should know this already but it's still paper and pencil effectively? Be tested, try to recall contacts and medical staff trace them if they can. Can a bunch of random people in Primark, for instance, be followed up in this way? And any passengers on the bus as well? How can they do this? What if the contacts when found don't comply? This isn't a world beating system at all is it? How can this work?

Track and trace has been abandoned. We now have test and trace, a manual version, which I doubt is very effective if you spent say an hour a day commuting on the underground stood pressed up against people. You aren't going to be able to identify them when asked who you've been in close contact with are you?

Indeed @long I using think the expression 'world-beating' shows an English leadership stuck in 1940s and genuinely believing themselves. Actually this is 2020 and England looks weak and sick and isolated; what an embarrassment. I think it's is a weird mix with the same powers obsessing and sweating out bots and fake-newsing and influencing on social media. It should be looking to Switzerland or Finland or Singapore but instead it just seems to listen out for Aus and NZ and Canada (fair enough) and the US - meanwhile they are on a totally different track. Those who are leading us out of Europe triumphantly seem to have no idea.

People who are confirmed cases name the people they've had close contact with and test and trace call them up. I don't understand why people shit on it so much. I think it's because they think it's a tory thing which is completely ridiculous and pathetic.

It's not a case of wanting it to fail, it's a case of wanting a robust system in place that works.

How can a manual system work? A commuter, travelling for two hours a day on a busy tube or train cannot identify the people that they were sitting next to, or standing crushed up against for much longer than fifteen minutes can they?

We better hope that the numbers come down substantially before next winter to have any hope of such a system working and avoiding a second wave.

A manual system is the start point though isn't it? When the app is working, it will still notify the "central" system, who then contact those people who have been identified by the app IN ADDITION to the people who have been recalled by the Covid positive person.

The issue with this country is that we don't trust anybody, we aren't a conforming or subservient nation. Unlike Asia, we will not pick up our phones if we don't recognise the number. We are also completely unlikely to listen to an app telling us to isolate, hence we will always need the manual system to follow up both our known contacts, and the app indentified "random others". Even with this manual system, the effectiveness is unlikely to ever be better than 60% compliance.

So sitting or standing next to someone on a train or the bus, possibly in the drs surgery - all fit that criteria. How many of us could identify and provide contact details for the people we sat next to under those circumstances?

If it's a doctors surgery, the surgery would be contacted and names would be given. You can't on a train obviously but that's where the app will come in although going by Mumsnet, no one will be downloading it so the virus is here to stay...

How will the drs surgery know who I was sitting next to? They might know who, roughly was in there at the same time but not where we were sitting?

The commuting situation is clearly a big risk though - I'm much closer to strangers on s train than i would get to my work colleagues for example?

Are they still trying to develop the track and trace system? What's taking so long? Other countries already have one in use so why couldnt we adopt one of those rather than try and create our own?
