A primary school at the top of my street has had to close this week as a member of staff has tested positive and due to the number of staff needing to self isolate, they can't staff the school to open it.

9 outbreaks /positive relating to half term week
9 the week after.
Havent seen this week. It's on one of the gov slides. The half term week it was more than the number of outbreaks in hospitals.

A staff member testing positive isnt an outbreak.

If anyone tests positive (could have picked up from the supermarket) then track and trace means those near them need to isolate or be tested. Obviously in a school this could be the class/ither staff. But could still only be the 1 person affected, who picked it up from the supermarket....

And outbreak would be if it was actuallg spreading in school.

A bubble burst on day two because a parent sent in a child who had been tested for corona the previous Thursday. Positive result o the Tuesday .
Hoping no one else gets it there.

I doubt anyone is keeping real data on this, because we don't have the ability to do that properly. Shambles.

In an ideal world there are no cases because procedures put in place are working.

In last weeks surveillance report it is reported that there were 9 people across school settings that tested positive for Covid-19. Data from 01/07 to 07/07.

Since 1st June in my medium sized town we've had two bubbles shut down - one was a teacher, one was a child in a keyworker group. The headteachers were keen to let people know it was precautionary and that so far no one else had become symptomatic within those groups (or the wider school community) and that therefore they felt that the bubble system was working.

Yep it is a real worry when you have a shielding dh. I am almost grateful my kids are not in the groups allowed back.

You wouldn't send them back though, would you.
It's not compulsory.

Is the parent totally devoid of brain cells? What a total idiot! How did the school and other parents react?

A primary school near me had a child with a positive result so the bubble was told to self isolate but the rest of the school remained open.

The same has happened in a local nursery too.

It will happen, but that's what the thinking behind the bubbles is - only some need to shut. There are still over 1,000 new cases daily, it stands to reason that schools will see some.

As I understand the information, these 9 are classed as outbreaks as 2 or more people in the setting experienced similar symptoms and there has also been a positive covid-19 test. There are a further 6 school settings with a respiratory disease outbreak but with no positive test.

Yes, sorry I think I interpreted the information incorrectly.
I initially understood it to be 14 different school respiratory outbreaks and 9 people tested positive for covid-19. But re-reading it, it seems 9 of the 14 schools had covid-19 cases but number of people is unknown but a minimum of 9 people. So schools are reporting all respiratory outbreaks (I'm not sure if there is normal procedure in ordinary times?).

I think as it says more than 2 people then there will be cases of 1 person testing positive but dont they only test other symptomatic people so others may have caught it and they are all SI but noone else proven to have had it.

The above parent was surely wrong even if not waiting for the result they should surely have been off 7 days minimum after symptoms and that wouldnr have changed when found positive. But i guess the rest of the class maybe had to be off for 14 once dc is positive? But i guess by the time a test has come back after a weekend etc it could have been 7d.
Imo the rest of the bubble should be told as soon as someone gets a fever or cough. As vulnerable people are expected to send dc in. (Asthma/diabetes etc)

Reminds me of the spanish man on a flight getting his result and he had been at his mums funeral where she had died of covid. They were going to prosecute him last i heard.

Here is a link to normal procedure - www.gov.uk/government/publications/health-protection-in-schools-and-other-childcare-facilities/chapter-4-what-to-do-if-you-suspect-an-outbreak-of-infection so I think in normal times a general respiratory infection affecting a small number of people wouldn't be reported, it is if numbers are higher than normal, so I guess in primary if several students in the same class are off with flu you'd report it as an outbreak. Some diseases such as measles are reported as on outbreak with only 2 cases on site, I assume covid-19 is similar due to current situation.
