I've got a cough..

Exactly that really. I've been absolutely fine up until 7pm ish tonight when I was getting dd ready for bed and I started coughing, since then I have not stopped. It's not chesty/phlegmy, I just seem to have a scratchy throat that's making me cough constantly.

I'm laying in bed convincing myself that I have it, I'm on medication for health anxiety and I'm about 3st overweight so I'm terrified.

What do I do? Do I need a test?

I've been so careful, we were being quite strict but the kids went back to school 2 weeks ago and I've been venturing out to the supermarket etc.

Book a test. Hopefully it's not covid. Are yiu in an area where there is more iof it. ?

Advice to you would be to get a test and self isolate with yr household. Hope you soon feel better.

Yes you should get tested. Drive through is the quickest. By being tested you are ensuring that if you are positive you will be monitored and treated correctly. But.

Lots of things cause coughing and anxiety will make you more conscious of the need to cough. There is a small possibility it’s the virus. But about 100k people get tested daily because they have a symptom. Most don’t test positive, only about 1-2k are positive. From that only a small percentage develop severe symptoms.

Everyone in household needs to isolate. You need to book a test. Hopefully it’s just a cough but you must be Tested

People thinking it’s just a cough are spreading more.

My school opened to key worker children two weeks ago. They sent a child in when mum had ‘just a cough’ it then developed they all tested positive for covid. Child included. That then meant 8 families all had to isolate and be tested. Plus the 4 staff that had been in contact with child and then their families. A bloody nightmare. Government guidelines are very clear. Isolate and test

@Whatelsecouldibecalled I thought it was just the person in contact with the infected person that had to isolate? Not their entire family as well, unless they have symptoms? So the staff and children in the class would need to be isolated, but not their entities families?

Yes people do still get coughs and colds but we have been told to get tested if we develop a cough (or anosmia or develop a temperature). It makes sense to get tested and find out for certain. Good luck OP!

@Lemons1571 I think the concern (rightly or wrongly) was that the family informed school 3 days after the child had been in school and so could have infected the staff who in turn could have infected their families. I think?? I’m not sure. It was a bloody nightmare anyway! Makes me wonder what will happen when we go back. Say a child tests positive and he is taught by 5 teachers that day do all 5 teachers plus his 14 other classMates have to isolate until tested??

As others have said OP, isolate and test. Hope you feel better. Hayfever is terrible this year and I've had a bit of a tickly cough and throat from it, do you suffer from it?
