So, my 6yo has come home from school this afternoon with a fever - saw a white spot on his tonsils and when spoke to GP they were happy it was tonsillitis & he's started antibiotics.

However, the school have said for him (and his older sister) can't return to school unless Hans COVID screening. Am a HCP myself so can see there being some benefit in being tested myself too so am booked to go to our local testing centre tomorrow morning.

Know they give a 48hr-5 day window for results, but wondered if anyone had an idea what the average wait is?

I can only give my own experience but I went to a drive in centre at 1:30 Monday afternoon and got my result back at 6:30pm the next day. I think Baroness Harding said around 90% of results were now coming back in 24 hours.

I had the test at a drive-thru centre at lunchtime on Sunday and received the results by text/email just before 5pm on Monday. This is just my experience, so I don't know whether it's typical.

My husband went to the test centre at 8.30 last Monday morning and had the results just under 36 hours later

12 hours here. Well, a smidge over. Test at 10.45am & results at 11pm the same day. I was astonished! And v pleased I could go about the rest of my weekend as normal!

In case anyone's curious, we had swabs taken at a drive-in centre at 09.00 yesterday morning.
My husband and I both got results through via email at 23.45 last night, but heard nothing about the kids results (annoying as it was the 6yo's fever that brought us there) until 6.05am when text messages were sent.

Looking forward to sleeping tonight without regular phone checking!

That's a lot better than it used to be. I'm glad they've got it working properly now. Hope you all got the all clear.

First time they lost all the tests - collected from care home. Second time took 24 hours.
