Covid

Think I may have it. I am so scared.

Before I start yes we're going to isolate and I'm going to get tested but don't drive so it will take a few days.

I am so scared I've caught it. I had to get a taxi a week ago (both I and the driver wore a mask) and for the past two days I've had a really sore throat and just feel really tired. I have severe health anxiety/am overweight and disabled so this is my worst nightmare.
If I do have it how long will it be until I know if I'm out of the woods? Are there any indicators of a more severe disease? I currently have no temp or cough aside from when I feel I need to clear my throat as I feel as though I have something stuck in it.

I know there is a chance it may not be covid at all but this is the first time I've been unwell since the pandemic so freaking out a bit.

You don't have the 2 main symptoms, temperature or a cough.

Do you suffer from hayfever? Mine has been insane this year, including making me lethargic, sore throat, sore chest...

Beebityboo · 15/06/2020 11:34

Not usually a hay-fever sufferer but DS has been suffering with it badly so maybe a high pollen count?

I'm only coughing to clear my throat really and not very often.

It may well not be covid, but good to get tested to put your mind at rest. The vast majority of people do not get seriously ill - even most elderly people and people with risk factors will still be absolutely fine. Flowers

How’s your sense of taste/ smell?

Frazzled2207 · 15/06/2020 11:37

Chances are you don’t have it. You shouldn’t really need a test but if they’ll send you one I don’t blame you for wanting to get tested.
If the worst happens don’t panic. I have heard people say that if it’s going to turn into breathing problems that happens a week or so in. So if you get to day 8 or so and are not getting worse that is a good sign.

Taste and smell are fine. Its just a sore throat and a general feeling of malaise really.

You don't have the symptoms so you don't need a test .
Have you checked your symptoms on the nhs website?
I'm not sure why you are scared no symptoms, not confirmed it's Covid so ???
I'm confused why are you scared ?

You're right I do sound a bit ridiculous Grin.

I suppose I just feel a bit rough and have a sore throat/phglemy (sorry for the tmi) so I'm just a bit anxious I could have it. My GP doesn't seem to know how my disability will respond to the virus if I catch it so I'm just a bit worried, that's all. It seems like the symptoms do vary an awful lot.

Agh I'm sorry I missed the disability bit so I can see why you'd worry .
Try not to worry read up on the symptoms but the taxi ride journey will be low risk .

The pollen count was very high the past few days. I don't usually suffer with hay fever noticeably but have had some symptoms this past week, including a sore throat for a day.

You haven’t got a ‘new, persistent cough’, you haven’t got a high temperature and your taste & smell are fine therefore you do not have any of the main symptoms of covid.

So chill out and stop worrying! Smile

You definitely should have a test. A sore throat was how my friend’s Covid started, and you don’t want to potentially spread the virus as we’re trying to reduce it right down and be rid of the blasted thing.

Don’t worry too much. Remember it’s generally a mild illness. Rest (a lot), keep hydrated, eat well, keep an eye on your symptoms.

Hope you feel better soon. X

Community transmission is low and you don't have the most common symptoms. That's good.

Order a test to do at home asap. It will hopefully be with you in just 1 or 2 days. Register your test as soon as you get it and book your courier for the collection straight away. That will speed up the time to get your results.

Rest up and look after yourself. 80% of cases are mild even if you have got it.

I’m sat at home after testing positive. I think my first symptoms were feeling like a had a cold, then I lost my sense of taste and the temperature came. Apply for a postal test if you can’t drive through, stay in until results have come. The virus does affect people differently, I have many different symptoms to a friend who had it at the beginning. This has not gone away so keep yourself and others safe until you have a test result and know either way. Don’t worry too much about the worst case scenario, no body really knows what’ll happen once they’ve got this, deal with what you know and try not to worry about the what if’s.

All the people saying you don't have the symptoms you don't need a test. I too didn't have any of the symptoms but did have corona. I was so poorly but thought it wasn't corona because I had no cough temp until we ended
up calling an ambulance. I didn't have a sore throat though but I know other countries are testing people with one. Better to be safe and find out.

OP, I had a sore throat, bad headache, terrible sinus pain, blocked ears and feeling generally very under the weather from Thursday. I decided to get a test on Saturday as I have two medical appointments this week which I didn’t want to cancel (one being my babies vaccines). I felt it was more responsible to just get a test. Logged into the booking system at 8am, got tested at 10.45am & my results were back at 11pm that night! They were negative so I’m able to get on with my week!

Other illness are clearly still circulating or maybe it’s just heyfever but I’ve suffered for years with heyfever & this doesn’t feel the same as usual. Anti-histamines aren’t making me feel any better!

Just to add there's so many strains it's likely to be a weaker one, I have other health conditions that it triggered. Especially if you think it's from the taxi as he was well enough to work. The results come quickly and I'm sure you will be absolutely fine and get a negative swab. Xx

I had no temp (I had chills)
No real cough, very very slight for 2 days. Maybe for a couple of minutes.
No loss of taste or smell, but did have the metallic taste.
Shortness of breath and difficulty breathing
Muscle aches & twitching
Severe headache
Sore throat
Runny nose
Nausea
Diarrhea
Constant Tinnitus

I have just had a chest XRay, awaiting results & I am being seen by a rehab team.

The CDC.Gov website lists the following symptoms and I wish the NHS would.

Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

This list does not include all possible symptoms. CDC will continue to update this list as we learn more about COVID-19.

Try an antihistamine in case that helps, the pollen count is high this year. If you want a test then take one, it won't hurt to do so and might put your mind at ease.

@NotagainZippy Do you know if tinnitus is a covid symptom? My DH had blocked Eustachian tubes in December at the time DD and I had coughs and temps. DH has had tinnitus ever since.
Just wondering if we could have had covid and with DH it showed in his ears as they are his weak point (often has ear issues)?
OP - I would get tested for covid to put your mind at rest.

Unfortunately some people believe not having any of the main symptoms means you don’t have it, which is just not true. Yes a fever and cough are very typical symptoms for many but there are also such a significant number of people that do not experience these and still test positive that they are not defining.

Due to your health anxiety, do see if you can get a test and I hope you feel much better very soon.

A friend of mine had just a sore throat and nothing else when she tested positive. She was shocked it came back that she had it.

She was over it within a week and didn’t get ANY of the other symptoms.

Why don’t you order a test online?

GreyGardens88 · 15/06/2020 13:28

Sounds like it could be your anxiety causing the symptoms rather than any physical illness

Take a test it is better to be cautious and it will help to put your mind at rest by knowing one way or the other.
