How do I tell between a cold & corona?!

I’ve woken up this morning with what feels like any other cold I’ve ever had in my life. I wouldn’t be giving it a second thought in normal life. I’m bunged up & keep needing to blow my nose. My sinuses feel quite sore. I’ve got a minor sore throat, keeping sneezing & generally feel a bit under the weather.. I have no temp, no cough & my chest feels fine.

What do I do? How do I tell the difference? Do I just go get tested anyway?

I do suffer quite badly from heyfever but it’s been OK the last couple days & my symptoms usually get better for a chunk of the day with antihistamine. Today, they haven’t felt any better. Just the same all day.

I can see this happening every flipping week in winter, I’m so prone to catching colds!

You can't unfortunately so as long as you have one of the symptoms:

Temperature
New continuous cough
Loss of taste/smell

You need to self isolate and get a test.

@dementedpixie

Sounds more like a cold than covid

But better safe than sorry. Request a test and self isolate until the results are back.

She has no symptoms of covid so no need for a test. They will ask you anyway.

I reported sinus issues and a sore throat to the Zoe App and was directed to get a test done.

Zoe app are sending some people with symptoms of any kind for a test it seems.

I've been invited twice now!

My friend tested positive after only having a sore throat and loss of smell/taste. The official ‘symptoms’ are wide and varied.

My son got sent for sore eyes, but from what he said they are using it actual confirm that people dont have it so they can narrow down symptoms

Thanks all. Yes, the Zoe app has suggested I go for a test about 6 times! Usually when I plug in my heyfever symptoms. Unfortunately, I’m not able to easily get to a test centre & home kits never seem to be available! But I’m pretty certain in the past it’s all just been heyfever as I’ve had identical symptoms to the past 20 years & antihistamines make the symptoms much better!

I’ll try get a home test for these symptoms today. They aren’t budging & I’m feeling a bit lousy. Probably doesn’t help that I’ve got a 12 week old & am running on minimal sleep!

I deleted the Zoe app purely because of my hayfever. I'll be telling it I feel crap until September!

With Corona there will likely be a cough and some kind of breathing thing (whether that be shortness of breath, difficulty taking a full breath, or some other breathing thing). You'll also feel exhausted. I think these r all key symptoms. If you also have lack of smell and taste, and a temperature, I think it's a no brainier!

The Zoe app doesn’t ask if you feel well though; it asks if you feel physically normal. If you suffer from hayfever, it is normal to be sneezy, have itchy eyes etc at this time of year.

The Zoe app hasn't told me to get a test and I've reported symptoms the last 2 days. Even though I signed up for the research trial. Booked one online anyway

Do you have symptoms?

If yes, then you probably have a cold.

If no, you might be one of the 80% of people who get coronavirus and don't even know.

The main symptom of coronavirus for most people who get it is feeling absolutely fine.

My friend tested positive with just sinus pain. No cough or fever. Another friend had nothing but gastric symptoms. They wouldn't have tested if they hadn't been NHS workers so definitely better safe than sorry. Besides if you can pick up a cold you could also pick up Covid

Hi I'm wondering these thing. Sore throat that feels like swollen glands. I'm sweating after I take paracetamol but I do t feel sick. However I'm getting very little sleep as like you I'm caring for a 7 week old premature baby and getting only 3 hours sleep through the night so it's hard to tell. I don't know whether to go to the 8 week immunisation or postpone. No other symptoms. Ido tend to get swollen glands if I'm tired.

Congratulations on your new baby! I would take a test tbh. Its available for anyone now and I am of the school of thought treat as Covid until you know otherwise
