I just ruined my son’s hair!

I know this is fairly trivial. I just tried to cut my 20 month old’s hair as it’s getting out of control. He started moving as he won’t sit still and now it’s all lopsided. He won’t let me sort it out and keeps crying and running off anytime I find near him with the scissors. It looks ridiculous. Obviously there are no hairdressers open. I feel like crying. Again I know it’s hugely trivial in the scheme of things. But it feels huge at the moment. I don’t know what to do.

Oh dear!
It will grow out soon enough!

I always cut mine sitting in the hair chair in front of the TV to keep them still.
Maybe leave it for a few hours or even until tomorrow and try to even it out that way?

A few weeks back we cut my DS hair (he’s 3.5). DH cut the top first and then DS decided he’d had enough. He was left looking like a monk for about 2 weeks till he would let us cut the rest. Every time one of us looked at him we burst out laughing as he looked so silly. It’s grown and needs cutting again.
It’s hair, it grows. Don’t worry about it. Not like anyone will see it Smile

I did exactly the same thing, he was the same age! We solved it by using my husband's clippers (BabyLiss for men). Number 2 attachment for the back and sides, start at the bottom and veer away from his scalp when you get to the top of the side. The number 8 attachment works for the top of the head, go from front to back. It's dead easy and I'd say worthwhile getting clippers if you don't have any, I'm never using scissors again! Good luck!

My neice gave herself a fringe, my sister was beside herself because it looked so silly and was too short to fix.
My dad just said "a bad hair cut is 2 weeks, the embarrassing photos are forever"
I think he meant that it'll go away, but will haunt you forever 🤔

He'll be ok, just leave it a couple of days and try again.

I cut my son's hair too a few weeks ago, he moved when I did his fringe and it ended up way shorter than I wanted and looked funny. Luckily they're at an age where they don't care how it looks Grin

See if you can tweak it when he's in front of the TV or just shave it off. It'll grow again ❤️

You should see some of the absolutely horrendous haircuts I gave my son when he was that age. I look at those photos and it's VERY funny. Don't worry about it.

Don’t worry. In years to come, they will ruin their own hair. My adult, intelligent, well educated son thought that it was sensible to dry his hair (made wet by rain) over a chiminea. The singe is still growing out. 🤪

I’ve seen worse haircuts that people have paid for.

Honestly it grows back so quickly. When my daughter was about two i decided to give her a fringe on impulse one night. She has wavey hair.

When I’d done it my husband said “fuck me she looks like John bon jovi” 🤣🤣🤣

Ah - it's not that bad OP.

I wouldn't have even known if you hadn't said.

Seriously - don't worry. No one is going to see him/you anyway

It doesn’t get any better. My 16 yo DS looks like he’s about to join the army after my failed haircut with scissors meant the clippers had to come out.

Honestly I don’t think it looks that bad 😊 not a haircut story but hopefully make you laugh, many years ago back in the eighties when I was about 11 my mum decided to perm my fringe, just my fringe, I loved it! Until I got to school and was laughed at, called Elvis and had “Hound Dog” sung to me complete with Elvis dance moves, it did grow out and I can laugh about it now 😊

It won't be forever. It won't be too long before hairdressers open.
