Shielding extended in Wales and Scotland. Will England follow?

I expected this but I still feel disappointed by it. I fully understand though. I'm in England though so do you think England will follow? I haven't been outside our property boundary for over 11 weeks. It just feels like there's no end in sight although it surely can't go on forever. Just a moan really Sad

Sorry, not very coherent!

Some of my colleagues had already started receiving extension letters in England?

It's not compulsory though, if you feel it's no longer necessary, you don't have to do it.

Of course it's not compulsory but people who want to shield need it or they will be expected to return to work and start shopping in supermarkets as we will lose priority so it's good it's there as a choice

I'm certain they'll follow. The 12 week thing was just because people wouldn't have done it if they had said stay home indefinitely. My shielding FIL has been counting down the days until the 12 weeks are up even though it's completely arbitrary and the virus will still be with us for ages.

They have adjusted the shielding guidance to suggest that you can leave the house/meet others if you want though. If you want to be extra-cautious you could do it very early in the morning when there are fewer people around.

My own GP recommended I shield until the pandemic is over but I'd put that thought to the back of my mind and concentrated on week by week for my sanity. So successfully that I've only just remembered he said that Confused

Yes, it's the end of July for Scotland with further guidance to follow for a more individual approach. Exercise is now allowed though.

Was Wales mid August? I can't remember.

I don't work at the moment anyway but am doing a college course to change direction and give me something more lone parent friendly. It's hard doing assignments with no actual teaching.

Without sounding rude, what exactly did you expect? The virus isn’t going anywhere & while things do seem to trending downwards quite positively at the mo, the risk to the vulnerable remains. It won’t just suddenly end on 30th June..

You can now go for walks, the guidance changed last weekend. My mum & dad are feeling much better for it. They go early morning & evening as my mum feels it’s safer & they see a lot less people.

Until there is a vaccine or it magically disappears, shielders have to make a choice based on risk really..

When did this get announced? Do you think this will be announced for England later at the daily briefing? I am confused as to what the date is for the England shielding. We are shielding DP so I would like to know

I was late to the shielding party and didn't get my letter until 5 weeks after I'd been isolating then shielding anyway. The GP was very clear that I was to shield for at least 12 weeks from the day he rang me. So I'm
Shielded until July 22nd. Officially I think it was 15th June then the 30th but I'm
Not sure.

The plans for Scotland were announced by NS at the lunchtime briefing.

Thank you.
We are shielding as a family. With 2 of our kids so young and DP being a SAHD we decided it is best to do it as a family as kids would suffer so much socially distancing in their own home away from him.
We have been shielding since 23rd May. We haven't left the home at all. I

I will be listening to see what they say at today's briefing.
DP has just said probably won't be as England seem to be a little more relaxed than the rest of UK

The scottish guidance has changed so exercise and going out is permitted, however meeting other people is still not advised.
