Mystery covid test kits

Dh got a parcel from Amazon, containing 2 covid test kits - the sort to test if you have it now, not antibody tests.

None of us have symptoms, none of us have asked for a test. Dh has asked his HR department who know nothing about it, I checked at our GP surgery who are also mystified.

Dh phoned the number that you call to ask for a test, and they said they have no way of finding out who requested those tests.

Any ideas where they might be from?

It hasn’t come via his Amazon account

Maybe this is the way the government gets the testing numbers up?

I think the random ONS or PHE sampling tests come through Amazon. They're to work out the prevalence in the population. Could be those?

Amazon deliver the home testing kits for the national testing programme. You could contact them via their website.

Probably an error with the address and maybe meant for a neighbour. Or kids playing about. It’s not that big a mystery surely?

I ordered the NHS at home one last week and it came via amazon, I think they are the selected courier for the nhs testing.

No idea how you got one without requesting though. My guess would be that a neighbour had typed in the wrong address by mistake

Have you got an Alexa that was son during the news or kids and a one click amazon account.

My son ordered some storage bags for me once without me realising till they came

Hmm. It’s addressed to dh’s full legal name, which he doesn’t use (doesn’t like his first name, uses a nickname derived from his middle name). So not the neighbours. Not the kids. Nothing accidental as it wouldn’t have his name.

Also, there’s 2 kits - surely if you request a kit they’re either going to send 1, or enough for the household? Might be random ONS testing but there’s no letter explaining why, and surely they’d send 3 kits (3 adults here)?

Amazon haven’t replied.

Ordinarily this would be an “oh that’s weird” and forget it, but the government are making such a song and dance about testing and I know these two kits are going in their daily total of “tests we’ve done”!

My oh got a random test in the post from the government. It came with a leaflet saying they are testing the logistics of the operation? Maybe it’s that.

Yes, could be some kind of random government thing and they’ve forgotten the leaflet!
