It's now mandatory to wear face mask on public transport with exceptions for disability, young children etc.
This should have been done ages ago.
They also admitting face masks offers some protection

To clarify. It will be mandatory to wear face-masks on public transport in England from 15 June.

(Don't know what Wales or Scotland are doing.)

I still think most face masks do more harm than good but there you go

PuzzledObserver Thu 04-Jun-20 17:16:11

I wish the government would just watch John Campbell's YouTube channel and follow what he says

MarshaBradyo Thu 04-Jun-20 17:16:15

Yep not sure why we waited

GreyGardens88 Thu 04-Jun-20 17:16:55

Who will be providing the masks?

rosie39forever Thu 04-Jun-20 17:18:05

Doesn't have to be a mask can be a face covering, scarf of bandana.

CrunchyCarrot Thu 04-Jun-20 17:18:22

'Face coverings', not face masks.

rosie39forever Thu 04-Jun-20 17:18:34

Or not of

EggysMom Thu 04-Jun-20 17:18:36

Yes, sorry, if I could edit my post I would. It's a face covering rather than a face mask.

ineedaholidaynow Thu 04-Jun-20 17:19:03

@GreyGardens88 you will be providing it, but it is just a face covering not a mask per se.

ProfessorHasturLaVista Thu 04-Jun-20 17:19:09

Good. About time. Wish they would say the same for shops.

snowballer Thu 04-Jun-20 17:19:12

Who will be providing the masks?

Presumably the person wearing it? Please tell me people aren't going to start saying someone else should fund a small piece of cotton to put over their own face

Pelleas Thu 04-Jun-20 17:19:53

with exceptions for disability, young children etc.

I can see this leading to arguments.

Cherryghost Thu 04-Jun-20 17:22:03

Omg they having volunteer face covering reminder people to 'remind' people to wear one. This will not play out well

GreyGardens88

Who will be providing the masks?

You. Either buy a face covering or make it yourself of course. hmm

ToothFairyNemesis Thu 04-Jun-20 17:23:11

That’s a relief, as masks primarily protect others there was no real incentive for people to wear them who didn’t consider themselves high risk.

😄 Well said snowballer!

I'm wondering about the intercity, my journey on the 15th is 3.5 hours, I'll at least need a drink!

RichardMarxisinnocent Thu 04-Jun-20 17:25:28

It isn't masks it is face coverings, and the passengers will be expected to provide their own coverings, which could be bought or made, or could just be a scarf or bandana tied around your face.

I'd bet on it.

My thoughts too.

I can't understand why so many of the announcements are only implemented weeks later and then have so many exemptions.

twinnywinny14 Thu 04-Jun-20 17:30:26

This should have been done ages ago, and wtf saying from June 15th? Why is this happening now? Are they trying to slow the spread again? This makes no sense and wonder what is coming next x

Comefromaway Thu 04-Jun-20 17:30:29

I agree with this but it's going to make it difficult for ds to get to college if college is open in September. He has tried wearing one but it causes him to have a panic attack.

But that's our problem, no-one else's.
