AIBU that DH won't travel

Had planned to go to Turkey in October for 10 days however DH is saying he will not fly 3 hours or more whilst Covid is still around, even in October. We only have hotels booked which we can cancel before September so that's not a problem. He thinks I should be patient and I'm trying not to throw the toys out of my pram. So I'm looking to compromise with a UK break (ferry instead of flight and self-catering) but not booked anything yet however concerned that when if we can start making holiday plans at the end of summer accommodation will get booked up quickly.

Is he being sensible or overly cautious?

I took a 22 hour flight in March. Totally fine, didn’t catch covid. There’s no reason to avoid flying unless you are shielding. Obviously I’m not sure what the situation in turkey is like but flying in itself is hardly hazardous.

He's being sensible and totally reasonable. If you want to go, you know where the airport is. Your husband is well within his rights to not travel abroad if he's not comfortable with it.

I would not book a holiday now. It isnt just the travel itself. What will there be to do at the other end? Will the things you are hoping to do/see be open? Bars, restaurants, museums, markets? Whatever it is that floats your boat on holiday.

Considering a lot of European countries are ‘opening back up’ to tourists in July, I’d say October was fine.

I flew in late feb and didn't enjoy it at all. When I got to the hotel I cleaned everything, something Ive never done before. Was all so much faff and a feeling of not being comfortable. Not eating in restaurants comfortably as don't know who's got what due to Covid.
Not allowing the maid in in case we catch it from them. Again never not let the maid in. Not really much fun and definitely not great value for money especially if any good is included and you end up not feeling comfortable

Even if they enforce social distancing (which many are not) the air is recycled. Most (not all) recycle the air through HEPA filters which, even though pretty efficient, are not 100% efficient. And the air is recycled many times every hour...

Why risk getting really quite ill (even if you are young and fit) for a couple of weeks in a hotel? What if you get it out there?

Most holiday companies are allowing holidays to be postponed for a year. I would take that option (I have). If things are looking optimistic this summer I will drive somewhere in U.K. or France last minute.

The air on a modern plane is changed 20-30 times an hour. That’s every 2-3 minutes.

It's not just the plane. What about the queues and crowded areas in the airports (security, gates, etc)? What about the overcrowded shuttle buses? No way are we flying this year.

I don't think there is a whole lot that can be implemented to make flying safe. I mean long before this you often caught lurgy after flying.

I'd fly in October if infection rates were low and there's no quarantine in place. I'm hoping to fly at the end of August!

What's the logic with the three hour limit on flying? Personally I feel like the airport itself is quite risky- security trays, toilets, queues, shuttle buses. All high touch/places where a 2m gap is harder to have. I can't see the difference between a two hour or four hour flight unless I'm missing something?

Phew, well that's us told - proof nobody can catch covid on a flight or during their holiday... someone didn't catch it so it's totally fine for everyone!
