The authority next to ours has announced today that all their schools are delaying opening for nursery, reception, years 1 and 6 until at least the 15th June. Are other authorities doing this?

The school I work at is opening Monday as is the one my daughter attends. Opening every day too unlike 2 other local schools which are only opening mon, tue, thu, fri.

The London borough I work in is the 15th too. Gives us a chance to sort the classrooms out, organise who is doing which bubble, get resources delivered, train staff on new policies and get used to the new layout.

My DC school is opening for parents who “urgently need childcare to return to work” on Thur 4th for YR, Fri 5th Y1, Mon 8th Y6 & Nursery.
Then Wed 10th for Y2,3,4 & 5 again for parents who need to return to work.
Then the week after any YR who want to go back on the Mon, then each day another year through nursery to Y2.
They’ve also said if there is any capacity left they will take Y3,4&5 the week after that.

They’ll be closing at 1.00 on a Friday, so a lot more hours than I was expecting, I thought they’d maybe say 2 short days a week, not 4.5.

Sussex- yr 6 1st yr 1 3rd rec 8th.

Our local primary will open Y6 on Monday but won't open YR or Y1 as they don't think they can teach anything once you remove all the books and shared equipment (given these year groups learn through play), and the kind of "sterile" environment recommended by DFE's guidance would be very unpleasant for young kids and make them fearful of going to school.

Can I ask why it wasn’t done sooner? There has been nearly 3 weeks notice of schools reopening, and it was widely expected since earlier in the crisis. In our area (Surrey) schools I’m aware of are opening 1 June as planned, or at least staggering over first three days. I haven’t heard of any late ones. They are sticking mostly to recommended guidelines.

Also does anyone know what’s happened to the idea of all primary being back before holidays, as the later it’s left the harder that will be?

Lancashire here and our Public Health Dr with the county council has advised schools not to open yet as locally we can/are only meeting 3 out five criteria and they will let us know when they consider it safe.

Our head had already said before this that school wasn't opening and when it does it will be yr 6 back first and that is still the case.
