The authority next to ours has announced today that all their schools are delaying opening for nursery, reception, years 1 and 6 until at least the 15th June. Are other authorities doing this?

The academy I work in are ploughing on with opening on Wednesday. All the other schools local to me are staying shut, apart from to keyworker children afaik.

I’m in a London borough and our school is opening to Y6 on Monday, Y1 on the Wednesday and YR on the 8th.

The school I work at is opening Monday as is the one my daughter attends. Opening every day too unlike 2 other local schools which are only opening mon, tue, thu, fri.

Coffeeandteach Fri 29-May-20 22:33:09

The London borough I work in is the 15th too. Gives us a chance to sort the classrooms out, organise who is doing which bubble, get resources delivered, train staff on new policies and get used to the new layout.

My DC school is opening for parents who “urgently need childcare to return to work” on Thur 4th for YR, Fri 5th Y1, Mon 8th Y6 & Nursery.
Then Wed 10th for Y2,3,4 & 5 again for parents who need to return to work.
Then the week after any YR who want to go back on the Mon, then each day another year through nursery to Y2.
They’ve also said if there is any capacity left they will take Y3,4&5 the week after that.

BornOnThe4thJuly Fri 29-May-20 22:35:47

They’ll be closing at 1.00 on a Friday, so a lot more hours than I was expecting, I thought they’d maybe say 2 short days a week, not 4.5.

Cambridgeshire. Our school is opening on the 8th for YR and Y1. No date for the other years yet

Buckinghamshire: ours is opening Monday for Yr6 and Yr1 and reception Mon-Thurs. I didn’t think it would a actually happen but my Yr6 is very happy to go back...

Dadnotamum72 Fri 29-May-20 22:50:23

Sussex- yr 6 1st yr 1 3rd rec 8th.

PasserbyEffect Fri 29-May-20 22:51:45

Our local primary will open Y6 on Monday but won't open YR or Y1 as they don't think they can teach anything once you remove all the books and shared equipment (given these year groups learn through play), and the kind of "sterile" environment recommended by DFE's guidance would be very unpleasant for young kids and make them fearful of going to school.

North Somerset put back to 8th June. Because our hospital is closed due to high coronavirus levelssad

MummaGiles Fri 29-May-20 22:53:40

Derbyshire - Monday school is opening to yR, 1 & 6 and keyworker/EHCP children all full time. Locally other schools vary In how they are extending their opening, from 2 days/week to remaining closed.

ImFree2doasiwant Fri 29-May-20 22:54:35

Ds school is opening for R and yr1 on Monday. 4 days. Not yr 6 though.

maxonebitch Fri 29-May-20 22:54:37

Andorra155 Fri 29-May-20 22:55:48

My sons school in Norfolk is opening Monday as is the one my mum works in. My sisters nursery is also opening up to more children from Monday.

Andorra155 Fri 29-May-20 22:56:36

H1978 Fri 29-May-20 23:20:54

Thank you. We were all set to send DD to school nursery on Monday but now we are not so sure. With so many schools waiting it makes me think twice.

Leicestershire here - school opening only for Foundation, year 1 and keyworkers 4 days a week. It's closed one day for deep cleaning.

NoForksToGive Fri 29-May-20 23:40:04

the 15th too. Gives us a chance to sort the classrooms out, organise who is doing which bubble, get resources delivered, train staff on new policies and get used to the new layout

Can I ask why it wasn’t done sooner? There has been nearly 3 weeks notice of schools reopening, and it was widely expected since earlier in the crisis. In our area (Surrey) schools I’m aware of are opening 1 June as planned, or at least staggering over first three days. I haven’t heard of any late ones. They are sticking mostly to recommended guidelines.

Also does anyone know what’s happened to the idea of all primary being back before holidays, as the later it’s left the harder that will be?

AdalindMeisner Fri 29-May-20 23:46:47

Lancashire here and our Public Health Dr with the county council has advised schools not to open yet as locally we can/are only meeting 3 out five criteria and they will let us know when they consider it safe.

Our head had already said before this that school wasn't opening and when it does it will be yr 6 back first and that is still the case.

Astabarista Fri 29-May-20 23:49:09

Derbyshire. No opening date set yet. Most local schools are the same

Some academies are opening though
