Covid

Chiropodist appointment

I’ve had to make an appointment with a Chiropodist for Monday morning as I’ve been in increasing agony with my toenail (had it partially removed 20 years ago and it grows back thick and horrible, every few years I have to get it cut and ground down).

It’s getting to the point where I can’t wear shoes - not a problem these days as not going out but I’m 26 weeks pregnant and I don’t want it becoming infected if it damages the skin too much.

Dh doesn’t want me to go and get it done. But it’s so, so sore and I can’t cut it myself.

My thinking is it’s perfectly safe - they always wear gloves and masks anyway and to be honest, I’m at the hospital for tests every two weeks and two midwives there died of covid this month so I’m at risk anyway.

But he’s now put it in my head that it’s another risk too much when I can just bear it for another few months.

It’s necessary medical treatment, not a spa day! Why is he so set against it? I would say that the (minimal) risk is absolutely worth it, if you don’t get it sorted now it’ll only get worse.

He says it’s mainly because I had to call around lots before I found one who was still open - that it can’t be safe If half of them are closed.

And he thinks I’m being vain as I made a comment a few days ago about how awful it looked when I wear sanders in the garden.

I don’t think he gets it’s not vanity, it’s bloody painful.

My nan went this week as she was in a lot of discomfort. The chiropodist wore PPE equipment & she was the only patient in the building, said she felt very safe.
If I was in your position, I'd go.

I went to my regular 3 monthly appointment in April OP. It's a clinical environment anyway and they took extra measures - I wasn't allowed in the building until the previous client had left, receptionist directed me so I wasn't in close proximity to him at all. All felt perfectly fine to me. I have a dodgy toenail too which is under control as long as I keep my appointments!

I went last week, they had just reopened after being shut ever since lockdown. It was very well organised. The chiropodist wore PPE, I wore a mask and also they had a perspex flexible sheer thing (not sure what it's called!) hanging across the treatment room so that just my feet were sticking underneath it on the chiropodists side. Seemed to work well, and I felt comfortable.
