Apologies for the metaphor, but I couldn't think of anything else that involved a constant pattern of squeezing and relaxation.Grin

I feel like this is basically what we have to look forward to for the next few years: "R is below one, everyone relax a bit...oh, no it's gone above 1, time to tighten up again...".

What struck me about today's announcement is how very little has changed. I've got the feeling the numbers are not quite where the government was hoping. They're trying real hard to manage the population's feelings ("here's a carrot for all your hard work!"), but they don't look too happy themselves.

They’re sending in the guinea pig squads to ‘see what happens’. Good luck with that.

I think this is what will happen (despite many people on this forum adamently - and angrily?! - saying lockdown is over forever and we need to get back to normal). Also why I'd like to see my close family now in case we can't see them again over autumn, or even a mini summer peak if there are regional outbreaks.

This was my overwhelming feeling today. That we aren’t in a good enough position really but Boris has gone too far with his promises & now trying to distract from DC. I feel we’ll be back to square one in a couple months & be locked down again! 🤦🏼‍♀️ In which case, I’m also keen to try see family now & her my daughter back to nursery in case we have to go through all this again for months .. 🤦🏼‍♀️

And there won’t be any further financial help for areas that are subject to a second lockdown.
