So im reading lots of people on here saying they r meeting family etc , all deciding to use their own risk assessment etc and its got me wondering what the point in the goverment in having any type of plan if everyone just decides they r going to do it their way anyway? The current guidelines r to 1 person from one household meet pne person at park for example, i mean what's the point of going through the motion of easing lockdown if everyone os deciding whats best for their family, mental health etc?

That is the UK government plan.
People being nudged into the 'If you can't beat 'em, join them' attitude included.

There was a point in other countries. Those that had proper lockdowns and well implemented mitigation measures.
They'll get through this better than us and will start recovering far sooner. As long as they keep us (and Brazilians and Swedes) out.

The point is to protect others, ourselves and still try and prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed. I don't concern myself with what others do. I might comment on it but the only behaviour I can control is my own. I try, as far as possible, to do the right thing.

The situation brings to mind the phrase "If so-and-so told you to jump of a cliff would you do it?" Just because others flout the guidelines, it doesn't mean they aren't worth sticking to.

Yes agree.
I tend only to emulate those I respect.
It appears an awful lot of people are huge admirers of Dominic Cummings. So desperate to copy him.

Because it's not 'everyone' and it never was. For every neighbour you see have a vist, there'll be someone (or more than one) somewhere else who isn't, won't send their children back to school, will continue to WFH and haven't left the house for months and have no intention to do so 'till it's safe' according to MN.

Can i just state that i absolutely will not be doing what i want as others have said. Im following the guildlines, im just finding it really difficult and seeing all these peoples all out visiting family or family visiting them as they r doing whats best them, their mental health etc is really fustrating

Ita funny cause 4 out of 5 neighbours r visiting parents/grandparents and weather they r socially distancing i have no idea, but its like we nod at the yes u have to risk assess ur own situation , whats best for my mental health etc, as dont want to fall out and what could u say anyways, i just want to scream no u cant ! ! Thats not what we have been asked to do

The point was all the lunatics who are on hear screaming about the rules and barricading themselves in their houses until there is a vaccine. There is no need for full compliance, the government just needs enough people to comply enough to keep the infection rates under NHS capacity. It’s actually better if large numbers break the rules because it will shorten the outbreak and things can get up and running again sooner with less risk of further outbreaks.

Two scenarios: do you think there is a risk to what you want to do?

Or you think there is no risk but you're just blindly obedient to what you've been told?

If it's the first scenario, then you not doing it, is what you think is sensible and correct and what other people do will have no impact whatsoever on your choices. Same as someone speeding or taking drugs wouldn't effect your decisions not to do that.

If it's the second then question why you just do what you're told. Especially if it makes you angry and resentful.
