When is the feeling that opticians might reopen for eye tests?
My 11 year old currently has glasses held together by superglue, and I think he needs new lenses too. How long do you think we will need to wait? And what will the waiting lists be like when they do open??!!

Well they are seeing emergencies now. My husband developed a potentially serious eye condition and was seen the next day. New glasses ordered and now received.
I expect they will open for longer hours when they do open. Probably July 4th like hairdressers.

They’re open now if you need them urgently. Specsavers I know are doing repairs and urgent appointments.

Dc broke their glasses. I phoned Specsavers and requested a new pair of glasses for. They sent some within a couple of weeks but dc had recently had an eye test so no prescription changes.

Is it urgent tho?? I'm mean, he has functioning glasses. As a Mum, I think he needs stronger lenses (creeping ever closer to the TV, like he usually does 9 months after the last script change), and glasses fragile but ok. That's not my version of emergency?

Lots open, they are doing emergency appointments. Phone first as you can't simply walk in the shop.

They are open now for emergencies including broken glasses etc. Contact them and see what they can do! It’s looking likely it will be 4th July onwards for routine appointments but yes I imagine they will have quite long waiting lists as they won’t be able to see as many people a day. Contact now and see if you can put your name down for a appointment when they open and see if there’s anything they can do about the broken specs!

I think glasses held together with superglue and being unable to see the TV comfortably needs some attention. It can’t hurt to ring and ask, they can only say no.

I have glasses held together variously by a paper clip, sellotape and stitched cotton. I feel your pain.

We’re open for emergencies including broken glasses. (Although not all practices are, but you should give one nearby who is. If you leave a message at your usual practice they’ll be able to help you, I pop in to see patients at my friend’s practice as she’s quite heavily pregnant at the moment.) they’ll start opening regularly next week, we have access to shield for our equipment.

Opticians could have opened all along and have been for emergency appointments. The nhs contracts were suspended when lockdown started so currently there are no routine appointments happening as yet this suspension has not been lifted and at the moment there is no indication when this will be happening early June has been touted a few times so could be next week. The measures that optical practice are having to put in place are extensive due to the fact that social distancing is not really possible. Practices are opening for longer hours to be able to offer more appointments but many staff are remaining furloughed so there maybe a wait. My best advice is to phone your opticians and see what they advise dependant on your child's prescription they may see them if not they will be able to do a repair from the door.
