... about Dominic Cummings, but in the mean time how about I distract you with some shopping?

I mean you couldn’t make it up, could you? I think irresponsible policy will be the legacy of this current government.

I am and always have been a Tory supporter.

This fucking muppet show thou, for the first time in 30 years I don't think I'll ever vote again.

It's insulting!

The bit where he pulled out his glasses as a reply to why was Dominic testing his eye sight by driving completely lost it for me. They are on another planet.
If anyone watches drag race it me such a “look over there!!” Distraction technique. He would never of announce shops opening if he wasn’t!

  1. We already all made up our minds. Boris is in a minority of two.
  2. Are we that dumb that we will forget about it if he announces shops reopening?

I go between laughing, and fear at the death count going up soon as a result of lots of people 'making their own judgements' about the rules.

Report
Redolent · 25/05/2020 21:29

And then you have poor Dominic, the underdog, surrounded by a mob of reporters baying for blood. Firing question after question while he has to justify his devotion to his family. Never mind that he set up the whole session and asked them round. Never mind that this whole shit show escalated when Tory MPs started slavishly and suspiciously defending him in unison, quelling all dissent by implying that he ‘cared’ about his family more than the rule abiders.

@bulletjournalbilly they’re definitely alienating everyone with this nonsense. If ever there was an argument that people who want power shouldn’t have it, it’s these two.

@Redolent absolutely. Some might argue that as a policy maker, it’s his duty to care about everyone’s children. But we all know he’s just trying to justify his reckless actions after the fact. He did what he did because he thinks he’s above the law and the rest of us. He’s only sorry he got caught.

Except he's not sorry he got caught. He was given many opportunities to apologise during that press conference and refused to do it!

All they needed to do was say “We are sorry that we didn’t make it crystal clear to everyone, that if you’re on the bones of your arse with covid you have other options”

The govt made it crystal clear at the time that ordinary people should stay home

They just didn't mention that none of them were going to follow the rules if inconvenient

They had relatives living within 10 minutes of them in London

He shouldn't be important enough for us to even have to think about! He's not an MP. He doesn't need a press conference to get the public back on side. He's supposed to be an employee. Fire him and move on. If anything is annoying me about this, its that we're expected to recognise this man as an equivalent to an elected member of the government.

*its that we're expected to recognise this man as an equivalent to an elected member of the government(

Seriously? I’d rather deal with someone who got there through skill and not someone who pony tailed on the back of their party and was elected because they were party of the day. You write that like being elected is better than a Proper career path.

And Say what you want about Cummings the truth is even his detractors say he’s brilliant at his job.

As for whether he should have travelled or not, meh, Boris is right, make your own minds up.

@Bluntness

Except elected people are accountable to their electorate and can be held to account through deselection and re-election.

He is a liar and a spinner by trade. Not respectable by any stretch. Literally dipping turds in glitter and serving them up to the public so the elected can get away with things we know they shouldn’t. He is quite literally one of the unelected elite that he Condemned the EU government for having. Ok if he does it though. I’m beginning to spot a pattern...

@Bluntness100 it's not about how good he is at his job! Its about how much power he wields as someone who is unelected! And how we're supposed to recognise kr accept that power having... not elected him. You know unelected governments are usually frowned upon right?!

Report
Bluntness100 · 26/05/2020 06:47

Many civil servants have a huge amount of power. That’s the way it works.

You don’t really think someone decides to become an mp and is suddenly capable of running the home office or the exchequer do you? These organisations are ran by very powerful people at the top. That’s how it works. They advise the government minister who is the figure head but they are in charge.

As for Cummings, he’s not secretly running the government for gods sake. And every single prime minister has had the same advisors, just different folks.

Completely agree. Johnson should have taken better stock of the situation, though, I think the situation has spun well out of his control.

Report
Bluntness100 · 26/05/2020 07:01

To be fair I can see what he’s done, make Cummings explain then say make your own minds up this is my decision, I’m not firing him, and then refuse to engage further. It would just drag on otherwise and they’ve both answered the questions, agree or disagree.

But Cummings isn’t unique in any way shape nor form, there has always been government advisors inc senior ones, it’s just this time we know who he is.

Every single prime minister has had a Cummings, a team of them, as does Boris.

Those of us who despise the hypocrisy must keep shouting that one law for them and another for us is not going to be tolerated.
As for opening the shops, could they have thought up a more blatant way of trying to distract the masses?

It's insulting. Two fingers up to the public.
The Government will continue to do what it wants, regardless of the fact we have made up our minds and what we see is rotten.
