Just listening to the briefing. So pretty much all back to normal on the 15th apart from education? Does he really think people are going to docilely distance still??

Opening shops isn't "all back to normal." Pubs, leisure centres, gyms, cinemas, theatres are all staying closed. Essenti shops are already open, now non essential ones will be opening.

Won’t be going to any shops personally!

Even though Boris has said shops etc can reopen it doesn't necessarily mean they can or will. For example I work in a very busy opticians the majority of our eye test are done through the NHS we could have opened 2 or 3 weeks ago BUT the nhs contract have all been suspended so until that restarts we can't reopen not to mention the nightmare that will be social distancing in the environment we work in. Dentists etc are all in the same situation they have been told they can open but it's not possible for them to actually do so. How many other businesses are in the same situation that technically they can open but logistically it will be very difficult.

Am really pleased to hear that for my relatives who work in that sector. They can't wait to get back to work!

True Wax. There are just so many people about now judging by the news and looking out of the window at the traffic.

So you're still not supposed to see more than 1 person from outside your household, outside, but you can wander round a large shopping centreConfused

Other than clothes shops which shops aren't open already? I haven't been out and know clothes shops aren't but wondering which others weren't open

This is what I don't get. I've been in for 10 weeks. I'm getting a bit fed up. There seems to be little logic.

I’m assuming he’s announced we can all see our families?

Report
SistemaAddict · 25/05/2020 19:29

Funnily enough, no. Still not able to have contact with my mum. Still shielded.

So I can buy a house, buy a new car, treat myself to a new top but I still can't let my children hug their Grandma, despite all of us having followed lockdown since day 1?

Madness.

Hoping they announce something about social bubbles too. That is meant to be coming in this stage

MarieQueenofScots · 25/05/2020 19:33

Well I shall be seeing mine, and seeing my FWB.

You can break rules with impunity, enough green light for me.

@GrumpySausage exactly. Totally crazy. I’m drowning trying to work and home school my kids but can’t combine my household with my parents, even though neither we nor they have left the house except for limited socially distanced exercise

Why are they not addressing when we can see our families?

@colycola because there's no money in that

The virus is spread mostly in families

Flagsfiend · 25/05/2020 19:37

I guess with families they will just announce on the day that it is now fine to see x number of people at once. Whereas shops need some notice to organise social distancing and staffing.

I am assuming he will announce changes to who you can meet up in the next week or so. He has announced the shops to give them time to prepare.

Why did Chris Whitty and Patrick Vallance leave DS at 6.30pm tonight? Seems strange they’ve been there but neither one took part in press conference.
