Can Dominic Cummings wife drive?

Does anyone know? Presumably the media know she cant or it would have been asked why he needed to drive her to the hospital with their son when he had covid and had blurry eyes? Also she could have driven them back to London and not needed a trip to Barnard Castle to test his eyes?

I was begging for one of them to ask that glaringly obvious question..

It’s a fair enough question.
I can drive though and I couldn’t drive from Durham to London.
I could have done the local journey but I know people who don’t feel confident to drive in unfamiliar or busier places. It’s sneered at on Mumsnet but common in real life.
I think Cummings has behaved deplorably btw. And I don’t buy any of his excuses.

I don't love driving but it would have been an easy drive, the motorways would have been empty because everyone was staying at home

He didn't drive them to the hospital, they went by ambulance. He collected them.

Why would you drive to test whether your sight was working properly if there is any other able bodied adult who was able to drive.

I'd have thought driving if you're not sure you can see properly is really dangerous.

I'm assuming she can't drive or parent well enough for the occasion

The roads will hardly have been busy! Even if she wouldn't normally drive presumably as long as she had a licence she could have taken over if his eyes became blurry!!

Maybe his wifes eyes were left even more blurry after covid so she couldn't drive at all and didn't have to try!!

According to Piers Morgan (I know, who thought HE would be the voice of reason?) Yes.

I have been able to drive for 30 a few years, and I wouldn't drive from Durham to London.

Still maintain that I would have done the same as Dom.

Still maintain that I wouldn't have done the same, had I been responsible for the stupid rules. Part of the job description is, surely, following the ridiculous rules you choose to inflict on everyone else.

Also did you notice the farm belonged to his father! Not to both his parents...

Yes. They also have a nanny and brother in law who lives in London.

What about the fact that he said he came home from Downing Street that morning when she was ill. She then felt slightly better so he went back to Downing Street.

Surely returning to work is against the rules because the rules said if someone in your house has symptoms you self isolate for 14 days. He had no reason to go back to Downing Street and that’s a separate issue from Durham.

Can we not have a bit of fun o. mN?
It's done. Leave it and follow the rules yourselves. It's a shit show by my beach today. Am not proud to be partially British

Is she allowed to drive though? Is she in a controlling relationship and being abused in plain sight?.

So many infringements, so little integrity.

Yeah the driving to test his eyesight was an obvious lie. Shame as the rest seemed believable just not what he should've done.

Peston asked this in the briefing, and Johnson refused to answer.

Breathtaking.

I can drive though and I couldn’t drive from Durham to London.

So you can’t drive then.

What was that unauthorised Civil Service tweet yesterday?

"CAN YOU IMAGINE WORKING FOR THESE TRUTH TWISTERS"

Spot on.

Assuming not.

Most people share the driving on a long journey.

Maybe they had to drive to the 1950s like Back to the Future where women know their place and don't drive.Grin

It's the A1 the whole way, it's not like you could get lost. Why would anyone who can drive not be able to drive down an empty road?

I think what it has shown is the media are terrible in this country, The Guardian and Pippa Crerar should apologise for fanning the flames of this story with lies about the alleged trip on the 19th and framing it as a social trip to his parents.
