Spain, the world's second most visited country, has announced it will lift its two-week quarantine rule on arriving overseas visitors from 1 July.

Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya said the "worst was behind us".

"In July we will gradually open Spain to international tourists, lift the quarantine, ensure the highest standards of health safety," she tweeted.

Earlier, Tourism Minister Reyes Maroto called on tourists to start booking holidays for July.

Earlier this month, EU officials promised thatsummer is not cancelledin Europe.

I’m sensing you think it seems optimistic OP - and I agree. I also wonder whether tourists would get the full holiday experience in July. “Gradually” is open to interpretation too.

Agreed with you and I'm worried flight/hotel insurance companies are going to be really difficult with July claims/postponements too

I was due to go on the 1st July but my flight has been cancelled and so I fear I have lost the hotel cost as a result.

It's not open to UK visitors

Well it is, technically, we’ll just have to use up an extra 2 wks annual leave to self-isolate when we get back.

I don't fancy handing over a large sum of money for a Covid holiday.

And don't fancy 14 day quarantine when returning.

I'll cut my losses this year and spend my money in UK instead.

I think I've got it mixed up with Greece

@ssd Greece opens as well in the coming weeks (so does Iceland and Italy )

I thought Greece wasn't open to the UK or the USA

You might be right , not sure whether uk counts as eu or not at the moment.
Greece to Reopen Borders for EU Travellers From July 1. The Hellenic government has decided to open its borders for tourists from the Schengen zone, the European Union and Israel, from mid-June or July 1 the latest, as the number of Coronavirus infection cases has started to decrease

My comments is because uk is out of eu but meant to have same rules as any other country TIL end of year

They can’t afford not to open.

Masks are and will be compulsory. Not really the traditional holiday that most will look forward to.

I live here, we are on lockdown Hmm not sure at all that you'll be able to come, or if you'd want to.

Nothing is open. Nothing. I think the country will be open to some tourists but not all. I don't think UK. I really don't.

I am not allowed to travel outside my province, not sure how tourists are going to negotiate that. 1,000 euro fine or prison... no, I don't think so. The things you read in the press, so very different to the reality Grin

It means that people won’t get refunds I suppose, because it’s not actually cancelled. So, I suppose it’s stay here and take the financial hit .....or go, and accept holiday-lite.

I think that must be it @Patch23042 it's an excuse for not paying for a cancelled holiday.

The lockdown was 'lifted' today in some places, to the same level of English lockdown at the height of CV.

I believe this is a ploy by airlines.

@BillieEilish Sánchez has announced today that from 1st of July it’ll be opened to visitors so by then things will be opened. Moreover they’ve also said they’re willing to reduce to phases instead of 2 week each so looks likely the estado de alarma will be finished by end of June on time for the opening borders.

BillieEilish · 25/05/2020 23:20

Well, my communal pool is not opening this summer, and I believe this does not include visitors from UK. Fench and Germans perhaps. But, fair enough, go ahead!

Sanchez is quite clear on the horrific behaviour of Brits in Benidorm at the beginning of the lockdown and we have not all been sitting inside with out DC's for TEN WEEKS for nothing.

I think this quarantine into the UK won’t last very long. Air bridges with places like Italy, Greece and Spain will be agreed mid July methinks

You’ve not been indoors for nothing. The estate of the hospitals few months ago was crap and hence why they chose that decision. Remember it wasn’t to save lifes but to help the hospitals so they’d not collapse. Right now the estate of the hospitals outside of Madrid and Barcelona is good hence why they’re taking these decisions to open to the world. Also Spain’s Main income is tourism. You kill tourism in summer and you kill a big Income for many families. A balance needs to be found so that you don’t have more unemployment
