Dominic Cummings is a Lazy Dad

Or whatever the resident version of a Disney Dad is. You know when you meet a female friend for a lunch/hen do or whatever and her partner has always ALWAYS gone to stay with his mum or dropped the kids off with his sister so he can play golf? What’s that called?

Because that’s what really happened here, isn’t it? He scuttled out in a panic from Downing St not because he was scared he had Covid, but because his wife was ill and he was scared he’d have to do 7-14 days of parenting shitwork.

So he did what he always does and planned to palm his child off on a female relative. The fact he subsequently fell ill is neither here nor there. If his wife had been the sicker one, you can bet the sister/mother would have been called upon for childcare. Because he was the sicker one and his wife merely a bit poorly, they (she) apparently soldiered on.

So now all the public health messaging has been fatally undermined, along with (whatever was left of) the integrity of most of the cabinet - all because he couldn’t be arsed to build a bit of Lego or even just plonk the child in front of Paw Patrol with some crisps for a couple of days.

Twat.

Ha ha ha. That was the first thing I thought... he couldn’t wait to get up the A1 to ensure he didn’t have to take care of his own kid.

Exactly.

He's inept can't be arsed doing a decent job and they both knew it and hotfooted it to the nearest woman. Didn't even contemplate utilising his nearby brother.

It's the same story which clogs up the relationships and sole parents boards each week. Usually punctuated with "but he's a great Dad and really adores them!" 😍 Nope, he gives zero shits and her indoors will do it.

You probably have something there. It fits,

Is anyone else imagining that the dressing gown of doom was the first thing packed and that as soon as he started to feel a tiny bit ill on it went and his wife had to recover quicker than Lazarus was told to get up and walk?

I agree, he wasn't acting out of an altruistic desired to do the best for his family
he was doing what was most convenient for him, to make his life as easy as possible and ignoring the rules that he set for the rest of the population

Dressing Gown of Doom Grin I'll bet Boris has one too!

My initial reaction was Disney Dadding too. I'd imagine that he spends long hours in the office and not much practical, hands-on time.

He knew what he was doing and how it can possibly be squeezed around the small print of the law.

Some months ago DH and I discussed "what if" we were both unpleasantly ill. Our DCs are those few years older so can in an emergency, safely gawp at minecraft all day and raid/ prepare basic food so we made sure there was lots of easy food in for them to survive on. If they were a few years younger, a trip down the motorway could well have been necessary.

Couldn't agree more. This nonsense about him being fearful that he's be too ill to care for them. Rubbish.

KnobChops · 24/05/2020 12:16

Totally agree! I bet HE (not sick) made HER (sick, but not enough to not tolerate a 260 mile journey) drive while he hunkered down in the backseat sniffling and wearing the dressing gown of doom.

Now now....... All the Government Ministers have lined up to say he was just doing the best for his family so that's ok.

That is probably also why he took them to Barnard Castle over the weekend. What a thoughtful guy he is!!!

And we all thought he was a self-important, entitled slimeball!!!!

And they were probably right his family are probably all too aware that when the dressing gown of doom goes on he will be of no use to anyone

He had footballs and bikes in his car along with the dressing gown of doom no doubt!
How staged was that yesterday?

I've never met him but he has a strange attitude that I find fascinating. It's arrogance personified. (Trump would love this guy. )

I forgot that Nigel Farage is the presenter on lbc on Sunday mornings : was about to switch it off but Cummings was the big news and even he couldn't defend him today!

A snake like Cummings would instinctively know the best way to flatter someone like trump should it be in his interest to do so.
However trump only likes people who are of lower intelligence than he is...that leaves a very small pool of people that trump can like🤣

Making sure he continued their home education programme, unlike us inferior parents

That was my first thought too. Being too inept to parent your own child is no excuse for breaking lockdown.

Report
Deelish75 · 24/05/2020 14:40

Yes I definitely think palming the child off onto a female relative was one of the main reason they shot off up the A1. All the shopping and delivering of it was done by his sister and her daughter, are there no men available in that family to do the chores?
A journalist was reporting this morning that it was DC's father who contacted Durham Constabulary regarding DC being in Durham, so I guess the men are used for the big important jobs like speaking to the police 🤷‍♀️.

To the poster who mentioned Nigel Farage, apparently the hate each other and have had a few run ins over the years. NF was loving it this morning.

Possibly not just lazy

A great deal was made at the press conference yesterday of being left in his care as a safeguarding issue

I thought exactly the same thing. Fancy being so inept and scared of parenting that you feel you have to drive to the other end of the country rather than look after your child without your wife’s help. It’s shameful and embarrassing. The whole thing makes me cringe for that family. Poor child as well - they’ll grow up hearing the story of how dad drove across the country to palm them off with relatives because he couldn’t stand the very thought of taking care of them by himself.

Ahh , I thought Nigel was laughing as he put the boot in today on the radio.
He even tried to talk the odd supporter around that called in and defended Steve Kinnock too!! He must really really dislike Dom.

Men are really not coming out of lockdown well. DC behaving like an arse, Niall Ferguson shagging his mistress, Neil Gaiman breaking lockdown internationally and leaving his kid behind.......

Men, letting people down since the Stone Age ( I live with three of them!)
No, they are coming out of this looking really bad. Boris in particular although it's hard to know his thoughts at the moment as his disappeared.

When I read read MW's article about him rushing home to "look after" her then becoming the one that needed looking after, I did think: So he's one of those men.Hmm
