Boris says Dom can stay because 'he wasn't visiting a lover' - so should we all have ignored Boris's speech about not seeing our parents on Mother's' Day?!

Am I the only one to find this 'defence' quite extraordinary?

Were we not told most specifically that we must refrain from travelling across the country to visit our parents?

But apart from that - is there, then, a moral scale of justification in terms of the reason for flouting lockdown?

So if you are after illicit sex, that's a bit naughty. But if you're regrouping to a lovely annex in the country, grandparents to hand, we can turn a fond (but very) blind eye?

The real reason Dom did what he liked was:

He has zero respect for anyone's opinion apart from his own, and was fucked if he was going to be locked down.

Zero respect for the country, the people (us sheep), and, for what the PM says.

So, a maverick. Boris rather likes mavericks. He admires their spirit. And it was much on this kind of wave that he roused whoever he could onwards and 'upwards' towards the final front of Brexit (trampling any protesters under hoof).

But the virus isn't Brexit. Boris knows that. And he knows he's pushing his credit a bit at the moment with the goodwill of the country. And he also knows the country hates Dom. Even more so now. But Boris can't be without him.

What to do?

Does the country "hate Dom"? Remember, vast numbers of people have zero interest in politics, classing it as "boring" or "irrelevant"

Angry newpaper and social media is no way "the country"

The bloke who was sacked wasn’t sacked for having his married lover around to his, it was because we weren’t allowed to meet anyone who wasn’t already in our household Hmm

It's kind of funny how these bigger than life cold-stone-heart people turn out to have very human needs. Ferguson needed emotional & physical comfort. Cummings worried about his child welfare. Who knew?

They do not care and treat the public with contempt. Read this single mum blog to get a view of lockdown with kids on your own. Most would love to see their relatives and have support but managed to follow the stay at home advice unlike our leaders

My boss and her husband both had CV at the same time. Both of their parents lived less than 10 miles away from them but as both sets of parents are just over 70 they stayed away from their parents and struggled on with two DC on their own. One reception and one year two who fight light cat and dog. They had neighbours delivering food and did the right things and followed the guidance. Yet DC thinks he is above all this. His actions don't send a clear message out to the rest of the country.
The message loud and clear is now ‘do what I say /not what I do /all go out and catch the virus’.

As I've posted on another similar thread I've signed the online petition and written to my MP (by online website) saying that DC should resign, they are taking us for fools.
We can do something to show our disapproval and be heard.

Yes Rosehip it was a sweeping statement about everyone disliking DC but the point is there - for even those of us who are not political, the insult is clear.

I'm just bewildered, sad, afraid, horrified, that the people making policy and with the power of law are just not following their own rules. This is starting to feel like a medieval monarchy with Boris as the ailing king and DC the Sheriff of Nottingham (/Durham!!).

It is shocking, we're governed by these people.
Our lives are in their hands.
I'm not political but this has angered me.

Remember, there are tens of thousands of families around the country mourning loved ones who they were unable to see touch or even attend a funeral. Like the parents of that poor 13 year old boy in London.

There are many more of us with frail relatives we have been told not to see and children isolated from their friends and schools. We have collectively co-operated, often losing livelihoods in the process.

Dominic Cummings stuck two fingers up at the rest of us.
