To all the parents apparantly worried and complaining to school about your child having to be in a bubble with a key worker kid ...

Most of these kids have already had it and are likely (though we know not definitely) immune right now!

So they are probably the ones you should be hoping little Jonny sits next to!

A key worker kid could be the child of 1/2 adults who don't work in public facing roles and can work in physical isolation.

We're going to have a key worker bubble, but also key workers children who have been able to stay at home (such as where one parent doesn't work) will be going into their class bubble.

My kid's school is keeping the key worker kids in their existing group and not integrating them with their year groups. Shame for my year 6 DS but I suppose it keeps the risk down.

I don't get this anyway as not all 'key workers' are going out to work. You can be a key worker and be working from home. My friend and her husband are both key workers and WFH, so will be sending their child back to nursery as it's been almost impossible for them to juggle work and childcare. But their child won't have been at any risk of exposure. So what they really mean is 'NHS workers', surely?

The uptake here for the key worker spaces in schools was minuscule though. I think they ended up closing pretty much every school as about 5% of the expected numbers showed up. No idea how or why, as the next council area over had too many!

How do people know which kids are 'keyworker' kids anyway? Obviously some have been at school throughout, but lots haven't.

Our school has said they are going to keep key worker's children in the same (mixed age) group that they are in already, and separate from the July incomer bubbles.

I'm not sure of the logic behind it. I assumed it was because they are a happy familiar unit as they are.

I’m pretty sure government guidance was that keyworker children from returning year groups should go with their year group... that’s how our head interpreted it anyway.

Key workers are in a separate bubble because bubbles can't mix, so at our school you can choose between part time with cohort or full time in KW group if you are KW.

The thing is wrap around care will only be available to key worker children so for that to happen they need to stay in their own key worker bubble rather than mix with their class through the day.

Ah I did wonder if this is why my child is off to the portacabin and why they called it a 'keyworker place' when we haven't needed to use the keyworker place for lockdown. I don't feel okay about it but maybe i'm wrong?

Our headmistress wouldn’t give any time to that sort of demand, thankfully. She has made plans, and if people aren’t happy with the plans they can stay at home.

Mine is a "keyworker kid" but they've stayed at home the entire time. So they'll be going back into their year group.
