Is it OK to ask my cleaner to re-start (or not)?

Just that really.

I’m working from home but it’s got really busy and I don’t want to spend my weekends cleaning (which is why I got a cleaner in the first place). But I can’t decide if it’s safe to have my cleaner back at the moment? Obviously if I’m home when she is here, I would make sure we social distance, and I’d stay in my office.

Any thoughts?

Cleaner here! I have kept 1 customer the whole time. He sits in his office or shouts out notice if he needs to run to the kettle /loo!!
I am hoping some other customers ask me back soon!.
I bleach handles and surfaces on arrival and lots of hand washing as per the guidelines. I shower and change ASAP at home.

Mine is starting back next week. She will wear masks and gloves and we will go out whilst she is here.

Probably not just yet. The people working out of the house are key workers, those who cannot work from home but CAN implement social distancing rules and Covid safety measures. Think Gov.uk site has information for businesses. Maybe take a look at that?
Obviously the ultimate decision is between you and your cleaner.

I'm really sorry for the unhelpful post!

I’m not going back just yet, I’m waiting until June at the earliest. I want the track and trace app running and for my clients to be using it. I want to feel safe. I’m actually considering stopping two houses since this all started as they’re not social distancing and won’t let me wear a mask. I’m sure you don’t have that problem though!
It’s whether you both feel it would be safe really.

Mine restarted this week, only half the usual time, but I could've cried with relief! Might sound over dramatic but she's my lifeline.

Mine restarted last week, was very keen (as was I but would not want her to return unless she was ok to do so). We left the house as she arrived.

Ps i think fine to lock yourself away in an office too. But we have small kids so difficult to do that.

Realitea they won't LET you wear a mask? Wtf? Ditch the bastards Angry

They can come in, and always could. Going to work if you can't work from home was always allowed. The key worker thing was just about their children being able to go to school.
Ask your cleaner if she's willing.

How can a client refuse to let you wear a mask? It's up to you what PPE you decide to use. Wear a mask if you feel it's necessary! Or tell them you're not working for them anymore (after they've paid you).

Mine came back last week and I feel much happier! With a 6mo baby I dont have the time/willpower to do any deep cleaning so it feels great to have a house that has been scrubbed from top to bottom

Our lovely cleaner wants to come back 1st June and we are happy for her to come.

Mine restarted last week, we go out whilst she's there.

To add that my cleaner contacted me and asked if it was ok to re-start, I would only ever have had her back when she was happy with it.

It depends on your health and which area of the country you live in.

Our cleaner offered to come back last week (I think she has returned to others). I've said not yet, as there are four of us in the house all trying to work (working from home plus home schooling) and it world be really difficult to social distance while she is here, unless we all sat in the garden.
I think I'll see how things are in terms of testing/tracing and infection rates in a month's time. We have continued to pay her throughout though.

Mine texted me saying she was happy to work if I was happy to have her and she's starting back next week. I have paid her throughout and would continue to do so if she wasn't happy, but she is, so we are both happy!

Yes. We've all had many weeks to develop safe ways of working. While we're on the subject, please could anyone who normally uses a dog walker restart too? I've had three clients who have continued to use the service throughout and another three have recently restarted, so I'm getting pretty good at bio-security. But I'm also getting fatter and poorer by the day... I'm used to walking six hours a day not two!

Mine came back last week. Very easy to socially distance, no big deal. She told me most of her clients kept her working throughout.

Not letting your cleaner wear a mask....who would do that?

@Queenfreak this is not true please see Government advice - CLEANERS can return as of 2 weeks ago

Report
Bluntness100 · 22/05/2020 12:07

Actually cleaners could work throughout and did. The government guidance was always on the website stating it. Nothing changed other than the government giving everyone a bit of a nudge.

I’m not sure who folks think are cleaning hospitals, schools, warehousess, offices etc that all remained operational? No distinction was made between domestic and commercial cleaning by the government.

Mine came back this week - it was great. She comes early in the morning so DS and I hid out with breakfast in my bed (room didn't really need cleaning) till she was done.

I've seen cleaners at neighbours houses and have a family member who has had their cleaner back for a few weeks now. Working in someone else's house has never been banned afaik but most people chose to stop for practical distance reasons

Ours came back on Wednesday. I asked her last week when she wanted to. DH stayed in his office, the rest of us went out. It was lovely to see her- we had a chat when she'd finished.
