Covid

We are the only household on our road following the rules 😡

Opposite house to the left has has plenty of visitors going in and out.

Elderly couple opposite - their family has been visiting every two or three days.

Bloke opposite to the right has been having parties.

To our right elderly lady has had her adult children round.

To our left were going out repeatedly when it was only allowed once a day, and then a couple of days ago had some friends round.

Next door to them has been the worst, absolute Piccadilly Circus. Visitors, parities, all sorts.

And now next door to that one are having a BBQ with five adults - only two live in the house!

I’ve reported Piccadilly Circus loads but have never seen the police come to talk to her.

It makes me SO angry. We would do anything to see our family and friends and our new baby niece. It’s driving me mad that we are the only people actually following the rules. Angry

No wonder our R rate is so high.

Well most people are following the rules. I am. You are not alone.

I understand your frustration. Its the same were we live. We are the only ones in our row not to have visitors. I keep having to watch the news to convince ourselves we are doing the right thing

What is our R rate now?

I thought we were doing well enough to start schools going back ect.

I get that lockdown is boring but really have you nothing better to do than keep a running log of how your neighbours are all 'flouting' the 'rules'?

And why the need for a new thread? Couldn't you have added your whining to one of the million or so other 'Everyone is flouting the rules except for meeee' threads?

Laiste - I meant our local area R rate.

You do you.
I too am following the guidelines but refuse to get all huffy when I see this!
Leave them to it!

We're keeping to the rules. I haven't been to my mums house since lockdown began. Tbh I'll be very very cautious when lockdown is lifted.

You have no idea the toll lockdown has taken on individuals and how desperate they are to see others. I'm sorry if you have been sticking to the rules - I have too but it is doing me harm and I can't for much longer. We know a lot more about the virus now and particularly that it is of low risk to various different groups of people, particularly younger people and those with no other health conditions. I think we're at a stage where the government can't justify forcing people to do anything - it's only reasonable to ask people to follow their own judgement. Most people will still be careful and wash hands and keep their distance.

Please don't waste your energy worrying about what others are doing. We haven't seen any spike in cases for VE Day or Easter or people returning to work 11 days ago now. Some thing the virus is burning itself out naturally in terms of spread. The R number has only been higher because of clusters in care homes, not because of numbers of it in the community.

People are stupid they think it won’t happen to them

It’s the same types who spread other illnesses round pre covid. For example ‘oh little ds was sick yes but he had just been jumping about after dinner’ then half a class have noro
Or ‘well we do have a bit of a sniffle but didn’t want to miss out’ and then a whole family catch a virus

People have been doing it for so long they can’t stop now and don’t think it’ll be them that catches it

I feel the same. It’s annoying to sacrifice when you’re asked and others dont.

You can’t cure stupid.

When the R number goes up at least some of us will know we didn’t contribute to that.

What is your local rate? Does the figure include care home infection rates?

How do you find out?

Teatowel1 · 21/05/2020 18:05

I could be one of many visitors, as seen by neighbours, but actually I am one of several personal assistants (aka carers, but it's with a private agency and we don't wear uniform) I imagine it looks like family members coming and going.
Things are not always what they seem.

Well I was on a conf call today and someone mentioned their mate who is a doctor who has been researching epidemics. Their prognosis is that the U.K. is due a second wave in October (makes sense - schools back, people going back to work) and predicts another lockdown in December.

Laiste - you can google it. A few days ago newspapers were reporting the R rates for each area and more recently you’ll find your local newspaper carries the updated R rates.

Ok, so it’s annoying to feel like you’re the only one following the rules. But cheer yourself up - the more people that have had it, the closer we are to herd immunity and being able to return to a more normal way of living. So perhaps you should be hoping for them all to spread it around?

Laiste · 21/05/2020 18:20

To be honest the government knew this would happen... they even said at the beginning thamey had to time lockdown right as people wouldn't follow it after a certain amount of time... That time seems to be now!

@Lordfrontpaw can you ask your mate where the country will be getting the money from for another lockdown? Medical people may advise that's the best thing to do but soon the government will be taking the advice of economists over medics I'm afraid! Rightly so if you ask me judging by how badly we could shaft ourselves with another lock down!

I think you need to wrap your house in cling film OP. Just to keep your rage in more than anything else.

Their prognosis is that the U.K. is due a second wave in October (makes sense - schools back, people going back to work) and predicts another lockdown in December.

I have always though this was inevitable regardless of whether lockdown is lifted or not, except hopefully most people will still have their jobs by then as we have allowed them to return to work. Many people will be glad without a Christmas with the family Grin The longer people are restricted the more they will do as they please. You just have to be responsible for your own risk and concentrate on what you are doing. I think most people are being good about it tbh.
