Was anyone under the impression that it would?

Whether or not this expert is proved to be correct in the long run, I think we need to consider that he may be correct, and think about ways to live with this virus. This includes letting low risk people back out to live their lives. Not sure how that works for the extremely vulnerable though Sad

We’ve known this all along though, haven’t we? Flu can’t be eradicated either and people die of it despite a vaccine.

I stood in a queue behind a couple who were talking about telling their bosses they wouldn’t be going back in and will stay on furlough until this is over. I genuinely couldn’t believe that they thought that was an acceptable stance.

I expected it to be like flu, that it will be managed by another vaccination. It's possible some countries will be able to stay clear and wait for the vaccine to be available.

They have been saying all along that its here to stay havent they Confused

Lockdown was to protect the nhs, not hide till the virus went away. Now we wait and see if the bright clever people work out an effective treatment or we get a vaccine.

However even with those 2 options coming to pass, people will still sadly die of covid in future just as they still die of flu now.

We need to learn to live with the virus, not cower in terror and refuse to work because of it (shielding people are clearly different btw)

Measles hasn't gone away, but we do have a vaccine for it. Even the bubonic plague is around, but that doesn't mean we don't have treatments for it. Around forever does not mean we will be in a permanent pandemic.

I imagine it will be like flu but worse.

People will be offered vaccines, which will give some protection.

Vulnerable people will avoid situations where they could catch it.

Hospitals and doctors will learn more about the disease and get better at treating it.

Key is going to be making social changes to reduce how much it spreads, protecting the most vulnerable, and flattening the curve so that the NHS doesn’t get overwhelord.
