Why the impatience?

Last week the nearby garden centre re-opened and on social media there were photos locally of people queuing for two hours to get in on the first day.

At the weekend a local beauty spot re-opened and it was swamped. There was videos on social media of literally hundreds of cars who all turned up for opening day, completely over-flowing the car park with hundreds of cars 'parked' (more like abandoned) on any nearby country road so people could still go in.

Today the local tip re-opened for the first time. There was a reported 3 hour queue to get in and local roads were completely congested with the traffic queues. To be clear we've had pretty much unaffected bin collections etc so it's not like people have mountains of rubbish to get rid of.

I know lockdown has been long and boring, but why are so many people rushing to get to things the minute they re-open? Common sense would suggest they are going to be very busy. Surely no-one has been so desperate for compost or to tip some old rubbish that they can't just stagger their visits a bit, rather than all turn up on mass for opening day? It must be horrendous for the staff and it makes a complete mockery of the concept of social distancing.

If you've turned up for something recently on the day it re-opened can I ask why the rush?

We have been walking to and around a local country park every Sunday for exercise, we went yesterday and took a picnic for the first time, the cafe was open for takeaway (so we got an ice cream) and the toilets were open. It was pretty busy and social distancing was difficult (it was about 50/50 with people trying to keep 2m) but we really enjoyed it, it felt normal and it was lovely. I would guess that people are just desperate for a bit of normality rather than bring desperate to buy plants or get rid of their rubbish.

being desperate

Just to add I don't plan on queing for hours to go to a garden centre or KFC, I'll be waiting a bit until the demand dies down, we could walk to the park and the only thing I had to que for was the ice cream.

Because a good 20% of the population have below average intelligence and only 50% have average intelligence.

Most people are stupid and the amount of people not following the social distancing rules throughout lock down has made that abundantly clear.

You really can't understand why people are desperate for a bit of normality and to get out of the house?

It's no different to everyone flocking to parks and beaches at the first sign of sun except orders of magnitude higher.

Well round here the council stopped collecting garden waste (then moaned about bonfires) so the garden waste would explain the tip. Also are we 7 weeks in to lockdown? A lot of people have been doing up the house with diy projects so again that would explain the need for the tip.

I don’t know what all tips are like but the one here the have barriers they close after x amount of cars on busy days anyway. So social distancing should be easier, they should never of closed with the council refusing to collect certain rubbish.

Beauty spot because people just want to go somewhere nice, which again I can understand. This situation has been hard for a lot of people and sometimes for your well being you need some sun and a nice view.

I also think at lot of these pictures you see on social media, crap local newspaper sites are manipulated to look busy anyway. Unless you’ve seen it with your own eyes I tend to take that kind of stuff with a pinch of salt.

We’ve started driving to relatively local beauty spots and to be honest we see less people and find it easier to socially distance than if we walk out into our local village. It really isn’t that hard unless you are going to the town park.

This. The National Trust were manipulated into closing Box Hill to cyclists by misleading photos.

Only thing I'd queue for is the tip. We have done alot of sorting of the house, decorating, put new carpets down, done up the garden. So have old drawers, carpets, garden rubbish, that doesnt fit in the bin, old clothes not fit for recycling, bags of off cuts of wallpaper and empty tins of paint etc to get rid of. Obviously I want it all gone so the place is tidy.

I wont be queuing for hours for KFC or McDonalds when it opens and I'm not desperate to go places for walks because we have been having lovely walks throughout anyway as our areas near to the river, woods etc.

Because people want normality.
