I teach year 12's and they are also due back on 1st June. The government slipped it in to their guidelines a couple of days after the announcement by Boris.
I'm happy to go back to work (although I've been working since lockdown - sending work and marking every day. Not to mention working out grading for current year 13's) but as this is post compulsory education, why are the government so keen for them to go back.
I completely disagree with primary aged pupils going back too by the way. But year 12's don't need to go back do they? I know that in September things won't magically be fixed, but at least by then we may be further along with adapting classrooms etc.
My classroom is tiny and can only fit around 6 students in with social distancing. Whereas 15 of my students in one class have said they are definitely coming in. They probably miss their friend which is fair enough but Where's the sense of safety? Just seems bonkers to me!

Isn't this school dependent? Has your school confirmed this?
My DD's primary is only staying open for keyworker children after June 1st. Year's R, 1 and 6 won't be going back as the school as said they don't have the staff and playground space to ensure social distancing.

I'm not sure. I work in England and the college feel compelled to open as that what the government wants. Seems bonkers to me though. To make it harder, I live in Wales where the rules are different.

We are definitely opening as it stands. I had to email all of my students yesterday to get definite numbers so we can plan classrooms

Same here. I'm a lunchtime assistant. Not sure how I'm going to help the kids cut their dinners up from 2 metres away?

From what my deputy head said, social distancing hasn't been mentioned for those working in schools. But it had for other workplaces. Just ridiculous. Wish I worked in Wales now :(

You need clarification, Spagbol. Are you in a union?
