Anti-lockdown demo in Hyde Park

I have just been stunned by footage on the BBC website of people gathering in Hyde Park demonstrating against the lockdown. My family and everyone I know have spent 8 weeks plus being very careful, social distancing. I have not seen family, including beloved grandchildren, single daughter with speech needs and my uncle who died alone in a nursing home. Here (OK, leafy shires) people are being very careful, and I have been wondering just how the virus could continue to circulate when everyone is trying so hard to keep distanced. The children near us have been amazing - lots of activities on social media in their own homes and gardens. But what is the point? Now it is clear. These numpties in London have been massing in groups, no social distancing with people like Piers Corbyn egging them on. If some people are behaving like this, what hope for the rest of us who want to get out of this as quickly as possible. I really wish we had a more authoritarian government as in South Korea and Singapore. Try demonstrating there with a megaphone Piers and see where it would get you.

There were very few apparently OP. Masses of publicity about it on social media and for instance in Bristol I think they got about six people and five of them had come in from outside. I've seen the London number estimated at about sixty. I wouldn't give it more than a passing thought, there will always be some, and to me it looks like a massive underwhelming failure, thankfully.

And Piers Corbyn has long been known to be a rabble-rousing fool.

No I don’t want to live in a country like South Korea thanks! 🙄

The protest has been advised on social media, the police knew it was going to happen and dealt with it quickly from the footage I’ve seen

Luckily not that many turned up

Piers Corbyn should be ashamed and to think people wanted his brother as our PM can you imagine

It certainly does not make the good work people have done to protect the nhs worthless. Lockdown was always on the basic you’d get a few cunts ignore it. You just hope the majority do the right thing and that keeps the deaths down, largely most to stick to it

Sheffield got 3 people - one household. I don’t think anywhere else in Yorkshire got any!! because they are too busy having bbqs in the Peak District

It's a very small number of people OP. Most of us are observing lockdown like you.

My Dad was one of the policemen attending the protest. Disgusting behaviour from some of the protestors. Those morons should be ashamed of themselves.

Thank you to your dad IntoTheUnknown89. From what I saw on film the police were engaging with the idiots very kindly and patiently.

Piers Corbyn is a climate-change denying anti-semitic tin-foil hatted twonk and a half in every glass. When he's on your side, it's a dead giveaway.
