Anyone feel like, “what was the fucking point?”

We’ve stuck to guidelines as I’m vulnerable and dh and ds are key workers. Today, on one of our usual walks, groups of people walking abreast down the middle of woodland paths (we pulled off the path), kids running down the path close behind people, joggers taking the middle of the path then coming home across a bridge about 3 metres wide (which has arrows telling you which side to walk on) a couple stood on the wrong side having a good long stare over the water. People were coming over the right side and we were waiting to go over the opposite way. In the end, dh went across the right side and asked them what they were playing at. “Well , you can get by can’t you?” Not very safely. It’s like people think the virus has just vanished because lockdowns been lifted a bit. And walking down the small Main Street home is like hopscotch.Sorry, I’ve tried to be as positive as I can, but this level of dickheadedness just makes me thing the sacrifices we’ve all made will be for naught.

Life is full of other people

You wanted to go out

So did they

I've just seen a crowd of young people arrive in cars, and unload bags and bedding, going into a neighbouring house. Clearly a party is happening tonight.

There's been comings & goings from that house all through lockdown too Confused

You're extremely unlikely to catch the virus just from walking past someone.

@ Vitaceae report them.

You can’t control the behaviour of other people, live and let live, otherwise you just end up frustrated and angry at the world. Main thing is just do what you think is best and keep your family safe.

I'm vulnerable too, and I won't be going out anywhere this weekend.

It's too chaotic.

@RememberTheSunnierDays I might have to do that. I'm watching to see what happens later. They're trouble in that house, and there's been many complaints about them according to another neighbour.

Can't imagine they haven't been seen by others too. DH is Angry

I'm vulnerable too. We were going out for our daily walk, but now no one is taking any notice of social distancing at all. I feel properly trapped in the house for the first time since lock down began. It seems that people have ignored the fact that the rules have been eased and are acting as if there are no social distancing rules at all. Give an inch, they take a mile.

Yep social distancing is seen as pointless by many. Already on this thread so.eone has implied as much.
Everyone should be respecting the rule. It.puts me off going out for walks because no matter how often i cross roads or stand somewhere safe to let othersnpass at 2m, some people dont give a shit.

The things some people think those that are avoiding catching the illlness are hysterical and being over the top.

The thing is just because they are happy to take their chances and lick strangers faces or whatever when they go out they need to respect thatbothers may jot be and not just hysterical over reaction but because they are vulnerable or have vulnerable family at home.

I’m not vulnerable, but I do stick to rules. But its so frustrating when I see my neighbours having friends around, when we’re just sticking to the rules and finding it really hard being apart from other people. Apart from a handful of people, everyone seems to be breaking the rules :(

MeadowHay · 16/05/2020 14:13

The data is out there, around 80% of the population are still complying with the lockdown measures. That's not only 'a handful of people' Confused.

Well you were out contributing to the crowds of people too, weren't you?

You're very unlikely to catch anything from walking past someone outdoors.

Report
MarriedToABellend · 16/05/2020 14:19

Its not the crowds ofpeople its the ones that don't attempt social distancing.
If I disk drive somewhere (I can't I'm in Wales) and arrived and saw it was too busy to social distance I'd not join the crowds but go elsewhere or back home.
Too many people have the attitude of "im alright kack.so fuck you".

It’s incredibly difficult to catch coronavirus from passing someone in the street, whatever the distance. The chances are tiny. Remember that even the WHO recommends a 1m distance, rather than our 2m.

Add to that, chances of passing the virus on outdoors are also minimal. Aerosols disperse faster and more widely making the chances of yin inhaling enough to infect you very unlikely.

Add to that the fact that risk generally increases when you are in close (less than 1m) contact for more than 15 minutes. Even when I go to a busy bar with friends I am rarely in that kind of close contact for more than 15m with anyone other than my husband!

Perhaps choose to go for your walk at less popular times of day if you remain concerned about the chance of infection.

I know it sounds silly, OP, but I recommend that you either carry one of the see through dome shaped brollies, so you feel less exposed as you walk past others or a large golf umbrella strategically placed to encourage others to keep their distance. There are a lot of wankers who don’t care because they think they’ll be fine, so don’t give a shit about how others feel. Don’t let selfish people put you if walking.

People do shit things that go against social distancing rules all day every day. It's pisses me off. But I for one am bored to fucking tears of these threads now.

Nothing is going to be done about this stuff. The people doing it don't care. The police, the government etc don't care, or at least aren't going to do anything about it.

It's already happened now. No one here can do anything about it. No one is going to track them down and make them pay.

I wish everyone would stop posting these boring, depressing threads about what some random person who walked too close to them. It won't change anything.

I'm afraid you're being ridiculously precious. If you don't want to come into contact with others then go early morning or evening when it's quieter (and still really nice).

The real question is: "what was the fucking point of the lockdown at all?"

It has been one of the worst decisions ever made by any government.

My neighbours are having family and their young children around 3 times a week. The kids play in the garden and make a lot of noise. I stick ear plugs in and turn the music up because kids have got to play somewhere. Ive never remarked to them about these family visits although they are breaking lockdown.

Last week 2 of my nephews came up to fix a fault on my security system. Essential household items still can go wrong and need to be repaired. This is within the rules. My nephew called over to the neighbours and politely warned them that they would be testing the alarm and that it might frighten the children, so they might like to consider going inside for a little.

One of the family asked "Who are you mate?" and on receiving the answer "Well you dont live there so you shouldnt be here" My nephew told him "Well you dont live there either and its none of your business. We thought we would be polite and warn you about the noise but now you can suck it up."

He made a point of testing the alarm several times although it was only for a few seconds in each case.

Theres always some entitled busybody who breaks the rules themselves and is constantly watching for an opportunity to snitch and cause trouble.

This,. I'm sorry but I dont understand slagging off people who are doing the exact same thing as you were- if you are that worried then stay indoors- thats what the government has suggested for people shielding.

The chances of catching it from walking past someone is so minuscule, you are overreacting

I love walking, a nice long walk was always a good stress reliever. Leaving the house now is more stressful than staying in for the other 23 hours, due to constantly having to sidestep around people.
